Dante VS Bayonetta (Devil May Cry VS Bayonetta)

"I fight demons"
- Zak Bagans

Dante, The Legendary Devil Hunter

Bayonetta, The Witch of Genesis

Angels, Demons and all things supernatural coming from Heaven or Hell can be hunted. Whether it be to pay the bills, for information, or simply for fun, you can always count on these two to get the job done. With either their friends by their side, their incredibly good looks or their truly insane number of weapons, they've been able to save the world countless times over. Will The Son of Sparda send the Umbra Witch to Inferno, or will Bayonetta make this devil cry? It's time to find out who I think would win a DEATH BATTLE!

Before I Start

For Dante I'll be using all of his canon material, that being the Devil May Cry games 1-5. The novel and manga versions, as well as the 2007 anime. And a slight look at the Peak of Combat mobile game. Given that the Devil Sword Dante is heavily implied to be Dante after the events of DMC 5. I'll also be using it to give more insight to Devil May Cry's cosmology as a whole.

For Bayonetta things are a bit simpler, I'll be using her main 3 games, Cereza and The Lost Demon as well as the Bloody Fate anime movie. I'll also note that even though the climax of Bayonetta 3 implies the Bayonetta's are different, they've had similar enough experiences and they even fuse at the end of the game.

As usual here are all of the links to the sources that helped in the making of this blog:

Also it's completely fine if you happen to disagree with me and my reasoning for any reason, I just ask any one reading this to engage with this respectfully.

Background

Dante

The story of the Sparda, a demon who turned on his own kind in order to protect humans is widely regarded as a fairy tale. However, this story is indeed true, evidenced by his twin boys Vergil and the hero of our story Dante. Dante had a mostly pleasant childhood growing up with his twin and his mother Eva as well as Sparda. With Dante and Vergil even receiving one of their most prized possessions, two halves of an amulet as a birthday present when they were young. But all this came crashing down one day when Sparda disappeared. And with Sparda gone, the previous ruler of demons Mundus took this chance to take revenge on his family. And with demons attacking their home, Eva had no choice but to hide Dante and try and find Vergil to hide him too. But after the attacks were done, Dante had nothing left as his mother was murdered and Vergil was gone. So in order to make himself feel better and perpetuate the cycle of vengeance Dante decided to become a devil hunter.

Leaving his hometown and taking up the name Tony Redgrave to honor it, Dante would go on his long journey of devil hunting. During his years as a devil hunter he would meet various allies, mainly his informants Enzo and Morrison as well as the gunsmith Nell Goldstein. With Nell even making Dante custom firearms that could handle Dante's insane trigger finger, Ebony & Ivory. With these guns as well as the sword he got from his father the Rebellion, Dante would set up his own shop for requests for demon hunting. But he couldn't quite figure out the name for his shop just yet. And shortly after this while he was 18 Dante learned that the brother he had long thought dead was actually alive. But he didn't quite reunite with Vergil under happy circumstances as Dante didn't want to embrace his demon side but Vergil would utterly embrace it. Leading to a conflict on the top of a tower that would open a portal to the Demon World in order for Vergil to gain more power in order to surpass their father. And in order to stop his brother, Dante would finally embrace his demon side and awaken to his Devil Trigger. But after their conflict Vergil decided to stay in the Demon World and keep Dante in the human world, and Dante lost his brother once again. And after these events as well as hearing a sentence from his new devil hunting ally Lady, he would finally decide on the name for his shop, Devil May Cry.

Over the years Dante would continue to hunt demons and gain a somewhat notable reputation as a devil hunter. With this notoriety leading a woman who looks suspiciously like Dante's mother named Trish coming to his shop to request a job for Dante to complete on Mallet island. With this job being to stop Mundus from coming back. And due to his personal history with the demon Dante took on this job immediately and left for Mallet Island. On this island Dante would encounter various demons and slay them all pretty easily. With the only enemy giving him trouble being a mysterious silent being Nelo Angelo. And after the third and final time the two face off Dante was finally able to beat Nelo Angelo and upon his explosion he dropped the half of an amulet that Dante recognized as the one he and Vergil got for their birthday. Which had Dante realize that he had killed his only remaining family member, giving him more reason to finally take down Mundus. And after using the two halves of the amulet as well as his father's sword Dante opened a portal to the demon world and took the fight to Mundus himself. With Dante finally putting an end to him and finally getting his long sought revenge. And a few years later Dante would be requested to take down another former ruler of the underworld Argosax, which Dante managed to do with ease.

But during all these years while Dante put on a smile and jokester persona, in reality he couldn't be more sad. With the loss of his family being the main catalyst especially since he was the one to slay his own brother. But when Dante decided to visit the city of Fortuna for a job in order to stop the members of a local church that worshipped his father from reviving a colossal demon he would learn his family wasn't as gone as he thought. He learned that he had a nephew named Nero living in Fortuna and decided to mentor him in his own way. And he even helped Nero be the one to take down the church and told him that if he ever needed a job he could always take up demon hunting since it pays pretty well. And he even decided to give Nero his brother's sword as the only gifts worth giving were the ones that meant a lot to him. Soon after this Dante would learn of his brother's return to the Human World where he separated himself into pure human and demon and the human half, calling himself V would hire him to take down the demon half, now going by Urizen.

Although Dante would struggle immensely against Urizen at first, with Urizen even completely breaking the Rebellion and knocking Dante out for a whole month. After waking up from his month long coma Dante learned the true nature of the Rebellion and used it to fuse his human and demon halves together in order unlock his maximum power, Sin Devil Trigger. And after Vergil reunited his two halves he unlocked his own Sin Devil Trigger and challenged his twin to one final duel. But before the two could finish killing each other, Nero stepped in to save the last remaining members of his family. But due to Vergil's actions as Urizen where he spouted a massive demon tree that threatened to destroy the world he and Dante would have to go into the Demon World to cut it off from its roots. With the possibility that they may never return. Although Nero protested at first, Dante reassured him and essentially gave over the role of the legendary devil hunter to Nero making him humanity's new protector.

Millenia ago, there existed the two clans of Europe who watched over the Trinity of Realities, The Lumen Sages who bask in the light and Umbra Witches who dwell within darkness. While the clans had a positive relationship, they also had a rule, that being that they shouldn't have a child with the other side as prophecy decreed that the child would cause unforeseen destruction. But a Lumen Sage named Balder and an Umbra Witch named Rosa had fallen in love and sired a child, violating the ancient laws. And this child would be named Cereza. This violation of the laws would topple the balance between light and dark and a war would break out between the two factions which resulted only in 3 survivors. Those being the lone Lumen Sage survivor Balder,  and the last two Umbra Witches, Cereza and her best friend Jeanne.

But even though Cereza survived the war, after she saw her mother's body on the floor she lost all will to fight and live on. And in order to make sure her friend survives Jeanne sealed her away at the bottom of a lake where she would stay sleep and sealed inside her coffin for 500 years. After she woke from her long slumber she developed amnesia and wandered around killing the angels of Paradiso until she came into contact with the informant Enzo and the fallen angel Rodin who gave her the new moniker, Bayonetta. So Bayonetta spent 20 years working with her new pals to try and get back her missing memories. And an opportunity finally came when she visited the city of Vigrid where she found and battle with Jeanne like old times and told her of Balder's plans on Isla del Sol where Bayonetta finally got her memories back. So Bayonetta had to fight against her own father and after putting a bullet through his head, all seemed resolved.

But Balder had another plan lined up where he would use his Right of Light and Bayonetta's Left Eye of Darkness to awaken the creator Jubileus and use her to recreate the Trinity of Realities with Paradiso being the ruling class. But even that plan fell through since Bayonetta teamed up with Jeanne to summon Queen Sheba and punch the creator across the solar system into the sun. After the many years of wandering through the world without her memories she was finally able to fully recover them and embrace her role as a protector of the world like her Umbran Sisters before her.

And a few months later when she was going Christmas shopping angels rudely interrupted her peace and quiet. And after a battle with them something goes wrong when summoning one of her demons and Jeanne's soul gets knocked out of her body. And in order to save her friend from the fiery pits of Inferno she goes to the mountain Fimbulventr. Where things don't happen as simply as she had hoped. Bayonetta ends up in a conflict between Loki and Loptr, who wanted to reunite with his other half to become the God of Chaos Aesir and rule over the world of Chaos and strip away free will from all of humanity. And this shenanigans even included time travel with a past version of Balder helping her take down Loptr for good.

But even that wasn't the culmination of Bayonetta's journeys and battles as soon after taking down Loptr she would find herself embroiled in a battle that spanned the multiverse. As she would travel through alternate universes to take down Singularity who planned to destroy and recreate the multiverse in their own image. But after a long war that took the lives of almost every version of herself throughout the multiverse, Bayonetta was able to defeat the multiversal entity, though she had to sacrifice herself to do so. Even though Bayonetta is no longer around in the human world, she found a worthy succesor in her role as humanity's protector and the Bayonetta in her daughter from an alternate universe, Viola.

Skill & Experience

Dante

Given his cocky nature, Dante is an exceptionally skilled combatant. He is an expert swordsman given that he and Vergil inherited their father's skill with a blade. Since he taught the brothers when they were children. He's also shown to completely master the use of all of his Devil Arms as soon as he gets them. He's had multiple fights with his brother throughout the years where he's been shown to be Vergil's equal. And given Vergil's status as the pinnacle of swordsmanship in Devil May Cry, that's pretty damn impressive. Dante could even match Gilver in combat, and Gilver could instantly read all of Dante's moves throughout their battle. Dante also easily outclasses any other swordsman in the human world, even the members of the Order of the Sword. Which would even include Nero in Devil May Cry 4, since he's shown toying with Nero throughout their fights in that game. Also by the time of DMC 4 he's rumored to have even surpassed his father's skill. And Sparda is repeatedly stated to be the greatest swordsman in all of the Demon World.

There's also the fights with the demons Modeus and Baoul who directly trained under Sparda and had over two millennia of combat experience, and Dante beat the both of them with minimal effort. Dante is also an expert marksman with damn near any gun he can wield. When he was just 19 Dante shot a bullet that hit a cue ball so precisely it triggered a reaction where they hit each other and led them into knocking out the demons he was fighting. Dante also possess an incredible trigger finger to the point where normal human beings can't handle pulling the trigger as fast as he can. As well as most normal guns not being able to handle his trigger finger as well. Another note of his expert marksmanship was when he used Ebony & Ivory to shoot the Yamato through the core of the massive Savior demon by stacking the bullets on top of each other to push the sword through it. Overall Dante is an exceptionally skilled combatant and most definitely the top dawg in Devil May Cry.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta is one of, if not the most skilled combatant in her verse. And that is truly insane as given that since she was an outcast to both of her clans, she has no actual combat training as an Umbra Witch and had to watch them fight before teaching herself their moves. She's shown to be an expert in hand to hand combat, fighting off hordes of enemies with it, as well as being an expert in the usage of magic. And she's even mastered the fighting style of the Umbra Witches, Bullet Arts where hand to hand combat is mixed in with their gunplay. And speaking of her gunplay, Bayonetta is an expert markswoman as well, being able to shoot with pinpoint accuracy regardless of whatever weird position she's in like aiming under her legs, or when laying is upside down while she's riding on a moving angel. Bayonetta's been shown to match and defeat the high ranking angels of Paradiso as well as the strongest demons from the pits of Inferno throughout her journey.

She's even been shown to match Jeanne in skill evenly during combat. Which is even more impressive since Jeanne was actively fighting during the 500 years that Bayonetta was sealed at the bottom of a lake, and Bayonetta was obviously not active during this 5 century long nap. The Witch of Genesis is shown that she can even match and defeat one of her counterparts throughout the multiverse. She's also defeated that universes version of Rosa who could use the Umbran Clock Tower demon to teleport during that battle. And most impressively, she could fight Singulariy who had all of the data of the entire multiverse. So overall, Bayonetta is most definitely the best fighter to have around should a world ending event start to unfold.

Arsenal

Dante

Devil Arms

The various weapons that Dante has collected and used throughout his many adventures are his devil arms, weapons that contain the powers and souls of various demons. Dante usually gains these weapons as a result of him beating the demon in a fight and ends up rewarded with the Devil Arm as a result. And when Dante enters his Devil Trigger form, the Devil Arm he's currently using will slightly alter the appearance and powers of his Devil Trigger. On top of that Dante's Devil Arms are incredibly durable and even if they were to be damaged, they can regenerate.

Rebellion

Ebony & Ivory

Dante's signature twin pistols that he wields throughout all of his adventures. These handcannons were crafted by the gunsmith and mother figure to Dante, Nell Goldstein. These puppies were made to withstand the insane trigger finger that Dante has since he would normally break normal guns. Ebony was made to fire more accurate long range shors and Ivory for short-range rapid-fire shots. So Dante has the options for both closed and long ranged fire, he can even use his guns to juggle enemies in the air in order to extend his combos. He can also use his demonic energy to charge his guns up for more powerful shots.

Cerberus

After defeating the guard dog of Hades, Dante was given his soul in the form of this set of nunchaku that weaponizes the power of ice. It's not one of the stronger weapons in Dante's massive library but it makes up for that with how fast he can attack while using it. He can further expand his options with this weapon when using his Swordsmaster style. As with it he can create massive ice pillars to spear his opponents with. It also has it's fair share of defensive options as well, since Dante can use it to cover himself in a massive ice sphere that protects him from damage as well as damaging anyone who hits him while he's in it.

Agni & Rudra

After defeating the duo, Dante gain this set of twin blades that manipulate fire and wind. With Agni he can manipulate fire so hot that it can even burn other demons who mostly resist that and with Rudra he can make miniature tornadoes through its wind. While he can use the swords to dual wield normally, he can also combine the two blades into a staff where he uses both elements simultaneously.

Nevan

Beowulf

A set of boots and gauntlets that originally belonged to Vergil until Dante snatched his chain. Beowulf utilizes the power of light and specializes in dealing out quick and powerful hand to hand combos. Dante can even use it to hurl a ball of light at his enemies and can create a massive explosion of said light when smashing his fists into the ground. He can also do multiple moves from Street Fighter like the Shinryuken while on the ground and Hurricane Kicks when in the air.

Coyote-A

Artemis

Artemis is a gun that shoots arrows made of pure demonic energy. It can lock on to multiple targets, shoot the arrows like a traditional bow would, and can even rapid fire the demon arrows. It can also for some reason fire an energy beam that's just a massive sphere and he can also shoot the sphere beam in the air and make it rain down the demon arrows.

Spiral

Force Edge

This blade is the dormant form of the primary weapon Dante's pops used. As such, like the other blades Sparda possessed it contains a portion of his power within it. Although it has some of Sparda's power, what the blade itself can do isn't much, it can home in on Dante's enemies and when Dante throws the blade it can create a whirlwind.

Devil Sword Sparda

The Devil Sword Sparda, is the true form of the Force Edge and the blade that Sparda used to separate the human world from the demon world, and hold the seal between realms in place. After the events of Devil May Cry 1 Dante gained the ability to use this legendary weapon. With it Dante can slash through space and time, befitting its legendary status and the sword can even change shapes into a spear and scythe. Other abilities the blade possesses are to fire off explosive runes and even summon a fucking dragon.

Alastor

Ifrit

Nightmare-β

Anti-Magic Rifle

Gilgamesh

This weapon gives Dante armor made of material from the demon world that transmutes organic matter on his arms and legs, as well as a mask on his face. With it his power is increased substantially and he can boost his power further with the engines the weapon comes equipped with. With Gilgamesh he's more focused on hand to hand combat, and it unlocks his inner fighting game fan with most of his combos being references to various fighting game characters.

Lucifer

After off screening the devil himself, Dante gained this backpack with a spider motif. With this backpack comes a seemingly never ending amount of laser swords that Dante can toss at his enemies to impale them. And if he tosses a rose at them or just claps, the swords will detonate.

Pandora

While at first it just looks like an ordinary briefcase, this is one of Dante's most dangerous weapons. That's because this briefcase can transform into at minimum 666 different weapons, but it's possible it could be way more since it has no fixed appearance and the weapons it transforms is only limited by what Dante can imagine. Although Dante has only shown off seven of these forms, they're still incredibly powerful. These forms are;
  • PF013: Epidemic: A double barrel rocket launcher that does massive damage but does have substantial recoil which leaves Dante unable to move.
  • PF124: Hatred: An evolution to Epidemic that Dante gets after spinning Epidemic around for a short time. With the evolution comes a third barrel on the rocket launcher that does 1.5 times more damage for the single shot it's used for.
  • PF262: Jealousy: A mini gatling gun that fires a myriad of bullets at high speeds, though for some reason Dante refuses to use this form unless his airbone and aims the weapon downward to hit his enemies.
  • PF398: Revenge: Dante can turn Hatred into Revenge after spinning it twice as much as he did to turn Epidemic into Hatred. When Hatred is turned into Revenge it becomes basically a single shot laser death cannon.
  • PF:422: Grief: A massive metallic shuriken looking thing that Dante can toss around like its a boomerang since it always comes back to him, even after hitting enemies that Dante has locked on to.
  • PF:594: Argument: Basically a giant hamster wheel of death and destruction. Dante sits in the cockpit of a massive sphere where he fires a shitton of turrets to completely decimate his opponents.
  • PF: 666: Omen: Hilariously the most powerful form of Pandora is just the fucking briefcase In this form it unleashes a powerful blinding light that is essentially a nuke to demons and can instantly kill most lesser demons. Although the power of Omen is so great that it will leave Dante vulnerable to attack after he uses it.

Yamato

Although Dante no longer possesses the Yamato, he still has a shard of the blade that's still incredibly powerful. Yamato was the last sword in Sparda's trinity that he then passed on to Vergil, as one of his blades it holds his power which only he and his kin can wield properly. The Yamato is so powerful that it can cut through space and dimensions with even mere splinters of the blade being capable of this. Dante once used one of these very splinters to escape from the Demon World back into the Human Realm.

Balrog

A set of gauntlet and greaves Dante received after defeating the right hand man of the Demon King Argosax. These gauntlets and greaves have Dante used hand to hand empowered by the hottest fires in all of hell, even more powerful than Ifrit. It also has two modes, Blow Mode and Kick Mode. Blow Mode seemingly takes inspo from boxing with Dante performing short, powerful punches as well as helping Dante dodge out of the way of enemy attacks. Kick Made has Dante incorporate capoeira into his moves, with him doing cartwheel kicks and flips.

Cavaliere

After defeating Cavaliere Angelo, Dante got my personal favorite weapon in off all Devil May Cry. Cavaliere is a motorcycle that Dante can ride on like normal but he can also separate it into twin buzzsaws. Although the attacks with the buzzsaws are pretty slow, they're incredibly powerful.

Dr. Faust

This is a weapon that looks like a cowboy hat which generates a scarf made of crystallized demon blood. It also seemingly lets Dante inhabit his inner Michael Jackson fan based on when he first received the weapon. Oh and the weapon shoots bullets made of Red Orbs which are crystallized demon blood. Dante can also throw the hat to his enemies and will deal more damage to them if they're wearing the hat.

King Cerberus

This is an upgraded version of the nunchaku Dante had back in DMC3, and it now has the powers of lightning and fire as well as ice. It can also separate into 3 different weapons now with the lightning power having it change into a sansetsukon, and the fire power changing it into a bo staff.

Devil Sword Dante

Dante's ultimate weapon he made after stabbing himself with the Rebellion while having the Devil Sword Sparda strapped to his back, resulting in the two weapons fusing into this behemoth of a blade. This sword is the true representation of Dante's power and Dante can just summon the blade into his hand and doesn't need to strap it on his back, and since it's literally made from Dante that makes sense. Also since the sword is a fusion of the Rebellion and Devil Sword Sparda, it should also have any abilities that those swords have. But even though Dante fused the previous blades into himself, if he's ever feeling nostalgic he could use Irregular Full Custom which lets him use all his swords at once.

Bayonetta

Umbran Watch

The Umbran Watch is a special timepiece that the Umbran Witches usually have on them at all times. This is said to represent the heart of an Umbra Witch and allows them to live far longer lives than any human would normally be able to. It also gives Umbra Witches most if not all their abilities, so should the watch ever be damaged it'll hurt Bayonetta. And if it were to be destroyed she would lose her ability to summon the demons of Inferno she's contracted with as well as her powers.

Scarborough Fair

A set of four guns that Bayonetta wields using both her hands and feet. These guns are named Parsley, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. These guns push the use of Bayonetta's magic to their absolute limit, and they're all durable enough to handle Bayonetta's bullet arts whereas regular guns can't. And they can also withstand Bayonetta's use of the wicked weaves.

Onyx Roses

Twin shotguns that have the souls of faeries contained within them. And each shot fired from them has the curse of the trapped faeries souls. Bayonetta can equip these weapons on either her hands, feet or both. And with the use of the Charge Modifier, she can charge up shots from the shotguns and has them fire multiple times in a row.

Shuraba

Kulshedra

Durga

A pair of razor sharp claws that contain the soul of the demon Durga. These claws each have their own element that they control, with one having the power offire and the other one having lightning. Bayonetta can equip these claws on either her hands or feet and with them equipped she gains a resistance to whichever element she's currently using.

Odette

Lt. Col. Kilgore

Sai Fung

Bazillions

Pillow Talk

Bayonetta has a lightsaber that is a vessel of the demon Mahavolrocana, who seduced women by messing with their dreams. Bayonetta can only equip this weapon on her arms and she mostly uses it the same way she uses Shuraba.

Rodin

Love is Blue

The gun set that Bayonetta switched Scarborough Fair out for during the events of Bayonetta 2. The names of these death machines disguised as handguns are, Prelude, Minuet, Toccata, and Nocturne. And Love is Blue are explicitly stated to be just as strong as Scarborough Fair, so she's not downgrading her weaponry at all. Especially since she basically uses the guns in the same way that she used Scarborough Fair during the last one. The only real difference between the gun sets is that Love is Blue allows her to use her Umbran Climax (more on that later).

Rakshasha

Alruna

This weapon is a whip that Bayonetta can equip on her hands or feet. Bayonetta typically uses the weapon like an upgraded version of Kulshedra, by mainly spinning it around in long sweeps to thin out massive crowds of angels and demons. Within the whip contains the soul of the spider-like demon of the same name, and anyone who hears the crack of the whip will have her curse felt in their ears. On top of cursing people who hear its crack it can also drive a person mad by simply touching the damn thing. The whip also has poison laced in it, and that poison is so strong it can even harm a persons soul.

Kafka

Chernobog

A massive scythe that contains the souls of various people killed by the god of death, that Rodin restored back to its true power. This weapon does incredible damage but as a drawback it is pretty slow to attack due to its sheer size. However if she does hit her enemies with this scythe, darkness will seep into their wounds and then their souls will be sent into the depths of Inferno.

Undine

Undine is a set of club-like flamethrowers that contain the soul of the spirit Undine, who threw herself into the River Cocytus after a failed relationship. Bayonetta has two elements with these clubs/flamethrowers she can use, both powered by the spirit of Undine. Her feelings of jealousy result in the flames and her breath of lament come out as ice. Bayonetta can also switch between whichever element she wants to use damn near instantly whenever she has this weapon equipped.

Takemikazuchi

Salamandra

Chain Chomp

Color My World

Bayonetta's set of handguns that she uses in place of Scarborough Fair/Love is Blue for the events of Bayonetta 3. These guns names are Yellow Sunshine, Orange Blossom, Green Grass and Blue Sky. Like the previous sets of handguns, these were made to withstand the use of Cereza's Bullet Arts. The only real difference between this set of handguns and her previous ones are that instead of allowing for Umbran Climax, these ones channel the power of the demon Madama Butterfly. And their power only grows exponentially with the use of Demon Masquerade (I'll get to that soon nnenough.)

G-Pillar

This weapon channels the power of the Infernal Demon Gommorah and is made of its tissue. G-Pillar is a massive anti-material rifle, but Bayonetta opts to primarily use it as a club instead. Though due to its absolutely massive size it is quite heavy so Bayonetta does swing the weapon slowly, but it does hit incredibly hard.

Ignis Araneae Yo-Yo

Dead End Express

Ribbit Libido-BZ55

Simoon

Tartarus

This is a pair of weapons that Bayonetta can wield which were made from the remains of the Umbran Clock Tower. Bayonetta can use the demon gates to open up various weapons, like weapons with spikes on them and gatling guns. It's also theorized that the souls of the fallen Umbra witches reside within these weapons. Cereza mainly uses these doors/gates as blunt punching weapons though if she feels like it she can go long range too, thanks to the weapon having gatling guns in it.

Abracadabra

Cruel Altea

Cassiopeia

An anchor like weapon that was originally used to defeat the demon Kraken, before becoming absorbed by the demon's body after it's original user was defeated. After centuries of being in the demons body it has gained tremendous magic power and has even more combat usefulness. The main way Bayonetta uses this weapon is to shoot out the anchor like a harpoon in order to hit enemies at both close and long range.

Abilities

Dante

Demonic Hybrid Physiology

As the son of the demon Sparda and the human Eva, Dante was born as a human-demon hybrid. And as a result he inherited a myriad of powers from his pops, like his brother Vergil since both of them possess his blood and soul. On top of that, since Sparda was quite literally just built different to all the other demons, Dante and his twin are also stronger than anyone could possibly imagine as well. And a plethora of abilities that he got thanks to being the son of Sparda. He can recover from any lost stamina in a relatively short timeframe and entering his Devil Trigger form will instantly recover all of it. Dante can also breathe underwater and also in space because of course he can. More abilities he's gained thanks to his demonic heritage are..

Demonic Energy

The main source of Dante's power and abilities all stem from demonic energy. Demonic Energy is basically the same thing as magic and the source from which all demon abilities are used. This is the main way that Dante boosts his stats as he amps himself with some demon juice, and when he starts to lose that Demonic Energy he feels those effects as well and gets weaker. But even with that Dante's Demon Energy comes back way faster than it would for most other demons and his strong human spirit can even strengthen his demonic strength. Dante has used his demonic energy and powers for a plethora of options during fights like with Rebellion and empowering the strength and accuracy of Ebony & Ivory. He's also used his Demonic Energy to launch beams from his swords to hit enemies at range, make a platform so he can perform a double jump, amping the speed of a motorcycle, and summoning energy swords like his brother Vergil. But even with all these draining his Demonic Energy, entering Devil trigger will instantly replenish it and have him recover all his lost stamina.

Fear Aura

Regeneration

What's more than likely Dante's most powerful and famous ability would be his ability to heal from almost any injury that would be fatal to any normal person. He's shrugged off being stabbed by multiple demons before even awakening to his Devil Trigger and a bullet through the head on the same day. His brother was even able to put himself back together incredibly quickly after Dante sliced him in half. And that was after a fight that had the twin boys incredibly exhausted. Dante himself has even shrugged off being stabbed through his heart. The regeneration of the Sparda family is even more cracked as evidenced by Dante's nephew Nero. After regaining his demonic energy he regrew the arm he lost. And Nero was once absorbed by the massive demon statue The Savior, and while within the statue he was being melted down into a soul and even that was being melted down. But after Dante called out to Nero, he remembered that he did indeed still exist and regained his sense of self and started to reform his body from pure memory. And then we come back to Vergil who after being killed by Dante in DMC1 with his body and soul being destroyed, somehow managing to return back by the time of DMC5. Although he was on the brink of death when he did that.

Soul Interaction

Dante can interact with the intangible Demons in his verse, as well as being able to separate a demon from the body of a human woman. Dante can also kill the demons, Shadow, Griffin and Nightmare which are capable of regenerating from their core, which serves as their very soul and/or life essence.

Control over Names

Supernatural Senses

Thanks to his heritage as a half-demon, Dante has way stronger senses than a normal human being. And his senses are so strong that they even trump that of most demons. Dante can sense the locations of his enemies even when they're underground and basically nothing else was going on somehow. The son of Sparda can also avoid any traps, even without being aware of them while he was in a weakened state. Dante is also capable of dancing around demons who were raining down gunfire and explosives, simply by sensing where they were going to be. And to top all of that off he was able to perfectly predict the path of Beryl's bullets and shoot them away with expert precision. Dante's sense of smell is also impeccable, being able to track demons by their smell like he's a bloodhound.

Sealing

Dante and his family members have shown the ability to create seals in order to trap powerful enemies he might not normally be able to defeat. One of the first times we see him do this is when he sealed away Mundus in the gap between the Human and Demon Realms at the end of Devil May Cry 1. Dante's also stated to have more sealing power than his pops. And Sparda was able to seal off the Demon World from the Human World for more than 2000 years.

Dante has the ability to quite literally switch his style of fighting mid combat with his Styles. Dante has 6 of these that he's accrued throughout his time as a Devil Hunter, each with their own unique traits that I'll go over one by one.

Trickster

The Trickster Style functions as Dante's high-speed combat style. With it, Dante gains more mobility options like being able to dash out of the way of enemy attacks. He can further this by being able to dash vertically and mid-air as well or even directly on enemies to force them to hit the ground while he stays airbone. He also gains access to the move Air Trick, in which Dante moves so fast it looks like he's basically teleporting.

Swordmaster

Dante's Swormaster style is relatively simple, with it he can add special attacks to any of his melee weapons. That's basically all it does but it's a cool option for whenever Dante wants to expand his combat options.

Gunslinger

Gunslinger Style is basically the gun version of Dante's Swordmaster style. Like with Swordmaster, with Gunslinger Dante gains more special attacks with his guns in which he decides to style on his opponents and expand his options for attacks with them.

Royalguard

Probably Dante's most bullshit style to deal with is his Royalguard Style. As with this Dante can block damn near all attacks his opponents try to make, which either reduces the damage he would normally take or just straight up completely nullify them. Dante has shown to be able to block and nullify multiple different types of attacks with this bullshit, like a sword slash from Agnus which would have otherwise injured him. He can also block other attacks like Vergil's ultimate attack, Judgement Cut End, a move from Agnus that sucks the energy from a person, and Berial's massive AoE fire attack. And with every successful block with using Royalguard he stockpiles energy from them and can then release it to deal massive damage. Dante also has a variant of Royalguard called Ultimate where instead of taking damage while blocking, he heals himself. And even further Dante can enter a state known as Dreadnaught, which makes him completely invulnerable to damage and with it he was able to negate an attack that otherwise would've reduced him to ashes.

Quicksilver

With the Quicksilver style, Dante gains the ability to utilize the miasma of the Demon World to slow down time in the surrounding area for everyone and everything other than himself. This normally comes at the cost of his DT gauge, or demonic energy and can only last about 10 seconds in gameplay. However the first time we ever see him use it in a cutscene it lasts for about 15 seconds and with years of training it should be well above that time limit at this point in time.

Bayonetta

Umbra Witch Physiology

As a member of the Umbra Witch clan, Cereza possesses far greater physical prowess than that of normal humans. She also is capable of living for living for millennia thanks to the Umbran Watch she was given as a child, which keeps the Umbra alive for generations and stops their aging. Bayonetta is also capable of entering and interact with the parallel realm of Purgatorio, and the people within Purgatorio are invisible and intangible from the Human Realm and the opposite holds true as well. However Bayonetta is still capable of both seeing and interacting with them while within either realm. And as an Umbra Witch Cereza is also capable of breathing both underwater and in the midst of space.

Bullet Arts

The fighting style that all Umbra Witches use which combines martial arts prowess with gunplay. Bayonetta is an expert in this martial arts form and even has specific moves she can perform which are;
  • After Burner Kick: While Bayonetta's in the air, she jettisons toward an enemy and delivers a powerful high speed flaming kick.
  • Air Dodge: A basic dodge Bayonetta can perform but she does it while in aerial combat.
  • Break Dance: My personal favorite, Cereza spins around on her back while shooting off all four of her guns in every single possible direction.
  • Heel Slide: A move used to deal damage with the weapon equipped to Cereza's feet while also closing the distance between herself and her opponents.
  • Heel Stomp: Bayonetta slams down her heel to perform a powerful attack that launches her enemies away and if she has enough magic power she'll summon her wicked weaves with it.
  • Stiletto: The hand weapon version of Bayonetta's Heel Slide, but unlike Heel Slide Cereza can use Stiletto in mid-air though it's not as fast.
  • Tetsuzanko: A technique that Bayonetta can use with any of her arm weapons that launches enemies away from her, and if she has enough magic power she'll summon her wicked weaves with it.
  • Umbran Portal Kick: Bayonetta summons a portal underneath her and then dives into it and comes out of the portal in the air and crashes into her enemies while kicking down in the surrounding area.
  • Witch Twist: Bayonetta drops to her knees in order to spin around and slide around before jumping up and twisting at the same time, she can even fire her guns while twisting in the air.
  • Witch Strike: An aerial technique in which Bayonetta attacks her enemies by jumping up and raising her weapon equipped to her arms in the air and then spinning it around.

Magic

Witch Time

The main ability of an Umbra Witch is that of Witch Time. Witch Time is a form of temporal control that allows Bayonetta to increase her speed and perception dramatically while also slowing time itself around Bayonetta to a crawl. The main use of this is when Bayonetta lands a perfect dodge which then leaves her enemies open to high speed attacks and combos for big damage. But she can also just activate the ability whenever she wants to as well. Cereza has even used this ability to form an ice spear out of rain drops during one of her fights with Jeanne. Bayonetta's Witch Time can also last for entire battles and she can additionally stack it on itself multiple times over. And Witch Time is so powerful that it can even affect the realm created by The God of Chaos Aesir.

Witch Walk

Beast Within

Hair

One of the greatest strengths of the Umbra Witches is their very own hair. Not only does Bayonetta's hair serve as her main source of clothing, it also serves as a mean of summoning her demon allies. It can also be used to hold her enemies in place like a binding rope. Not only that but Cereza can also use her hair to summon the limbs of Madama Butterfly for powerful combo finishers known as the Wicked Weaves.

Malphas' Wings

Whenever she wants to fly without transforming into a crow, Cereza can summon just the wings of the demon Malphas on her back. And since she's not transformed she keeps all her normal weapons and abilities.

Butterfly Wings

Whenever she wants to elongate the duration of her jumps Bayonetta can sprout the wings of Madama Butterfly. Not only does it slow down her descent after jumping, it also gives her a slight gliding ability.

Telekinesis

Cereza has the ability to use her magic to move objects with what seems to be telekinesis. The one time we see her use it, she moved this massive ferry away from the Homunculi. Though she should be able to use it more as we've seen other Witches and Sages use it to redirect bullets in mid-air and chuck massive objects like buildings and satellites.

Barrier Destruction

Bayonetta has the ability to destroy barriers and seals made from the angels of Paradiso, the demons of Inferno and the Homunculi made by Singularity. To destroy the angelic barriers she blows a kiss and with it she's capable of destroying a million of them at once. To destroy the demonic barriers she shoots a ring of hearts with her guns, and she can blow away the Homunculi's barriers with a simple snap.

Out of Body

Cereza can separate her soul from her body and fight on as just a soul, effectively making this just Astral Projection. Not only does her soul retain her abilities like the Wicked Weaves, she also makes spiritual copies of her weapons.

Torture Attacks

Whenever she's really feeling like punishing her enemies Bayonetta can spawn in torture weapons to put her opponents in extreme pain for a combo finisher. She has a myriad of different weapons she can harm her enemies with and they also happen to be unique for each subset of angel or demon she faces. But due to her having so much and me already going insane for listing all her weapons and abilities, I'm just gonna leave links for all her torture attacks. Here's the ones for Bayonetta 1, the ones in Bayonetta 2 and the ones for Bayonetta 3.

Regeneration

Even though Bayonetta mainly relies on dodging the attacks of her enemies, if she does get hit she can regenerate from fatal blows, so long as she has the energy and opportunity to activate it. One of her more impressive showings of her regeneration would be tearing out her heart for her Deadly Sin Ritual (more on that later). Cereza has also been able to regenerate a whole new body after getting her soul ripped out by Gomorrah. And her counterparts from Bayonetta 1 & 2 somehow managed to regenerate from being erased from existence for a brief period of time somehow.

Demon Slave

An ability thought to be completely lost throughout the ages, but Bayonetta is built different so of course she knows it. This allows Bayonetta to have complete control of the demons she summons with the power of dance. Although she is forced to stay in the same place while performing the technique and if her demons take enough damage they're forced to retreat back to Inferno but they're still alive and can come back after enough rest. She first used this when Gomorrah didn't feel like helping her due to their contract being based on killing angels and demons specifically, but she can use it with any of the demons she's contracted with. Speaking of which...

Infernal Demon Contracts

What's basically the signature ability of the Umbra Witches other than Witch Time is their ability to make contracts with demons to help them out in fights and Cereza is no exception. With her contracts, she can use her hair to summon the limbs of her demon partners or just summon the demons themselves outright. And if her partners decide to get too uppity, she can use the Demon Slave to keep them in line. The demons are also impossible to permanently kill as they'll simply just heal up and come back. Bayonetta has a varied amount of demons she can summon, and those are;

Forms

Dante
Devil Trigger

After his brother Vergil stabbed him with his own sword during their youth, Dante's latent demonic powers fully awakened and he gained the power to transform into his Devil Trigger Form. Upon transforming, Dante gains a massive boost to both his stats all of his abilities. And he even gains some pretty cool new powers. He can release a massive explosion of energy when he transforms, gains the ability to fly, and all his demonic energy is restored when he transforms too. Dante even gains nifty little differences to his appearance and abilities when he taps into Devil Trigger with a weapon from DMC3 and DMC1 equipped. These branches are:
  • Rebellion: Dante's most basic Devil Trigger form, in this state during DMC3, his coat gains coattails and opens up to have space for his new wings. He also gets claws on his hands and feet and a glowing red aura. In this state all of his basic stats increase.
  • Cerberus: Dante's coat transforms into bat like- vertical wings and gains a glowing light blue aura. In this state Dante is able to move faster than he does normally with his other weapons.
  • Agni & Rudra: Dante gains streams of energy that glow blue on side of his body and orange on the other one and he gains jagged spikes all throughout his body. With these weapons equipped Dante's strength increased dramatically and he gains even more ways to hit with with ice and fire.
  • Nevan: Dante gains a helmet like facial structure, longer coattails and glows light purple. With Nevan equipped, Dante's regeneration increases dramatically making him  nigh impossible to kill with the bonus of being able to perform Air Raid to rain down lightning.
  • Beowulf: Dante gains what's basically a helmet and begins to glow with a foggy white aura. With Beowulf equipped Dante gains a boost in his defense and endurance.
  • Alastor: With Alastor, Dante assumes a winged demonic form that grants him electrical powers as well as flight and super enhanced speed. Dante can also rain down lightning with the Air Raid technique.
  • Ifrit: With Ifrit, Dante assumes a more humanoid like appearance though still very demonic. In this state he gains the ability to throw fireballs. And gains an ability called Inferno where he slams down his fists on the ground and causes a massive explosion of fire.
  • Devil Sword Sparda: Dante takes on an appearance akin to his father's demonic form and gains enhanced versions of his other Devil Trigger abilities. Dante can also throw projectiles in the form of explosive runes and even a dragon. This state is stronger than Dante's normal Devil Trigger by a wide but unknown margin.

Sin Devil Trigger

After stabbing himself with the Rebellion in order to use its power to fuse man and devil, Dante absorbed both it and the Devil Sword Sparda which was strapped to his back and awakened to his truest potential, The Sin Devil Trigger. This form fully fuses Dante's demon and human halves together and is by far his strongest form. When activating this form in Peak of Combat, he's able to freeze space and time for about 5 seconds. Though unlike his normal Devil Trigger, Sin Devil Trigger can't last as long. The longest he's been shown to last in this form is about an hour when he and Vergil flew in these forms to the Demon World to cut the roots of the Qliphoth Tree. But Dante can mitigate this with the Quadruple S to use the form in short burst and not expend anywhere near as much energy as usual. And given that he uses this trick when he's the final boss in Vergil's campaign, this isn't just a gameplay thing. Dante also gains a myriad of new abilities in this form though it seems like he's limited to using just Devil Sword Dante in it and not any other weapons. These abilities are...
  • Shift & Advent: With Shift, Dante teleports around his enemy as a way to dodge attacks and advent is used similarly to teleport towards his opponent as a way to close in on them.
  • The Ombra: Dante gathers darkness and then launches massive spheres made of them at his enemies in order to have a ranged option since he can't use his guns.
  • Sin Stinger: Dante surrounds himself in swords before twisting and charging at his opponent and high speeds essentially acting like a drill.
  • Sin Inferno: Dante surrounds one his hands in his demon swords whole flying and then comes crashing down on his opponent with the sword covered hand.
  • Demolition: Dante seemingly summons a sort of black hole behind his enemy which attacks from within the body of that opponent. This move is so powerful that it's capable of casually one shotting weaker demons. And can basically cripple the ones on the stronger side as well.
  • The Luce: Dante wraps his wings around his body before gathering hellfire and firing a barrage of hellfire projectiles at his opponent.
  • Judgement: Dante's strongest move while in Sin Devil Trigger. Dante references the katas his pops did in the intro of DMC1 in powerful slashes before detonating all his demonic energy in a massive fucking explosion. Though this attack does use all of his power so Dante reverts back to base form after its used.

Bayonetta

Umbran Climax

This form is essentially Bayonetta's own version of Devil Trigger. Once her magic meter is full Bayonetta can tap into the Umbran Climax state where she becomes immune to knockback as well as time manipulation. She also gains a massive boost in her stats and all of her attacks summon the Wicked Weaves. And in place of the Wicked Weaves for combo finishers, she gains the even more powerful Infernal Weaves, which summon the full demon rather than just their limbs or weapons. She also regenerates her health during the duration of this form and it last until her current magic meter runs out.

Demon Masquerade

In Bayonetta 3, the titular character has the ability to essentially fuse with the demon representing the weapon she currently has equipped, rebuilding her body from the core in order to do so. These forms mainly function as combo finishers, but after building up enough meter she can use a powerful Masquerade Rage ability to dish out massive damage. And she can basically use these as a means of traveling faster, sort of replacing The Beast Within technique. These forms include:

Deadly Sin

Art by John Rizzo on Twitter

Even though she does have her fair share of transformations, Bayonetta isn't the only one getting in on the fun of changing her form to gain new abilities. By performing a ritual which requires her to literally rip out her heart and perform an incantation she can unleash the full unrestricted power of some of her demon allies. Though due to literally ripping her heart out, this is typically only used as a last resort since it's super taxing on her and using this on two demons at once exhausted her greatly.

Queen Butterfly, Lady of Onyx Brilliance

Sin Gomorrah, Font of Devastation

Gomorrah's full unrestricted form which pushes its power to the absolute limit. This behemoth grows substantially and is basically this verse's version of the homie Godzilla. This giant monstrosity can fire off blasts of energy from its mouth and tail, and even a giant fucking laser that he combined with Queen Butterfly's Kamehameha.

The Phantom, Igniter of Creation

The ultimate form of Phantasamraneae, it now has an internal reactor which creates magma a trillion degrees hot, being enough to vaporize almost anything instantly. Though since it's reactor is out of control, it cannot cool down so after being transformed it has no choice but to keep fighting until its clock runs out and basically self destructs. Even with that drawback this spider demon is still incredibly strong, being able to fire superheated missiles, energy beams and even orbs. And its self destruction is so powerful it created a massive explosion that could be seen in outer space.

Baal Zebul, Siren of Creeping Plague

This is the form that Baal chooses to hide from the world since she's a frog most of the time. Her voice becomes even more powerful, being able to echo throughout all of Inferno, and she can even deflect oncoming attacks just by singing. Her voice is also so insane that it's said to cause death upon anyone fortunate/unfortunate enough to hear her sing.

Scaling

Dante
Demons

Dante has defeated basically all of the demons thrown his way, even the uber powerful ones; with practically no difficulty, so he should scale to any and all feats performed by them.

Demon Kings

Dante has directly defeated Mundus, Argosax and Abigail. And some of them with practically no effort on his part. And by the time of Devil May Cry 5 he would become even stronger, so he should upscale from any feat performed by them.

Sparda Family

Dante was substantially stronger than his nephew in DMC 4 and by the time of DMC 5 is still likely stronger. He's also been basically equal to his twin brother for their whole lives as the two constantly fight throughout the years. And on top of all that, he's been said to have surpassed his very own father Sparda, in both DMC4 and 5. So he should scale to any feats performed by his family members.

Bayonetta

Angels of Paradiso

Cereza stylishly and provocatively defeats countless angels throughout the years, even the most powerful ones with seemingly little effort. So she should scale to any feats performed by them.

Infernal Demons of Inferno

Like with the angels, Bayonetta has consistently defeated the various demons from Inferno. With most of those fights seemingly having no effort on her part. She's also contracted to a bunch of demons thanks to her powers as an Umbra Witch.

Lumen Sages/Umbra Witches & Misc

Bayonetta has consistently been shown to be equal if not superior to her rival/girlfriend Jeanne and has even fought parallel versions of herself who were all Umbra Witches. On top of that she fought her father Balder both in his youth and adult years.

Deities

Cereza has fought many of deities throughout the years, typicall as the final bosses of the games. And she has overcome all of them so she should scale to any feats performed by them.
While Dante is the fucking goat of all action games with his numerous strengths, he's not completely flawless. One of, if the main weakness Dante has is that the man is incredibly cocky, though  most of the time he can back it up. There are some times where he can get too caught up in a fight and want to drag it out to enjoy himself instead of just taking the person down immediately. Royalguard, despite is utter bullshit in being able to block any attack, cannot defend against grabs.  And while his regeneration is indeed broken as fuck, it is tied to his stamina and can be overtaxed should he continue fighting and regenerating against someone just as stronger or stronger than him. Like when Urizen knocked him the fuck out for over a month.
Even with being the most perfect women in all of gaming, Cereza does have her fair share of flaws and weaknesses. (But not to me, pls marry me). She does tend to get pretty cocky in fights, even taunting her opponents which enrages them and makes them harder to fight. While powerful, her Deadly Sin Ritual could also leave her in a vulnerable state given that it requires her to literally rip out her heart in order to perform it. And that typically leaves her bleeding profusely, especially the times where she uses two at once and tires out. Also, while her abilities as an Umbra Witch are some of the most broken bullshit I've ever seen, she would start to lose them if her Umbran Watch takes damage and if it's outright destroyed then she would lose all of them. Which includes her contracts with her Demons and once that contract is gone, they'll target her as their next meal.

Cosmology

Dante/Devil May Cry

The world of Devil May Cry begins in complete darkness, being the Demon Realm before a light came in as the Human Realm and were originally the same universe before being split into two separate realms. Each of these realms have their own celestial bodies and are consistently called parallel universes. And there's also a dimensional wall that separates the realms from being directly connected and preventing demons from passing through the realms unless certain conditions are met. But there's more to the Demon Realm than meets the eye of being just a singular universe. Not only does it have its own laws compared to the Human Realm, it has 9 other subsets which are possibly their own universes called "Nirvanas" which operate differently from the rest of the Demon Realm. There's one where Dante has to defeat demons hidden in mirrors to escaped and another one where he has to win a demonic game of chess. And should he fail, the Nirvanas would revert back to its original point in time. Meaning that they also operate on their own rules of space-time. There's also multiple statements of these realms being endless or infinite in size.

The Demon World also contains the Void or Abyss, which is the place you got to practice moves and combos in Devil May Cry 5. And it's described as the birthplace of the Abyss demons and an actual infinite Abyss. The Memory Corridor is another place in The Demon World in Peak of Combat, which is a space to fight demons from the memories of your past. Which given the nature of memories themselves could theoretically wield infinite results. The Nightmare Space is another dimension which exists within the Demon Realm ruled by the Hellfilth and is described as being beyond space and time. And finally there's The Chaos Timeline, this is the "cracks" in the world, in other words a rift between all the dimensions of Underworld which again operates on different laws of time and space. And given just how The Memory Corridor and Nightmare Space work, it's possible that there an an infinite amount of these worlds that the rift is between. And not to forget there's also The Mirror World, basically a copied version of The Human World which essentially acts as the entrance to The Demon World. It represents the evil within the hearts of humanity and also has its own laws of time and space. It also reflects the entirety of The Human Realm.

Bayonetta

The Cosmology of Bayonetta begins and functionally ends with The Trinity of Realities. While the Trinity were originally all one universe, an event known as The First Armageddon led to the Universe being split into 3 realms. These realms are the Human World, better known as The World of Chaos, the Realm of the Angels Paradiso, and the realm of the demons, Inferno. These realms are all layered on each other, each with their own form of Spiritual energy running through them. While this seems like it would only consists of three universes, in reality The World of Chaos is actually a multiverse made up of countless universes layered upon each other. There's also the fact that time itself reflects upon itself infinitely and Aesir with the Eyes of the World is capable of witnessing/observing an infinite number of timelines/universes. And Paradiso is stated to be thousands of times bigger than The World of Chaos, with its own cosmos and laws of time and space. And the realm of Inferno is comparable to Paradiso in size. And finally there's the realm of Ginnungagap, a place in which it's possible to travel from one universe to another one. It's also stated by one of the artists in the artbook to be a void that encompasses all worlds, in a similar manner to Earth being enveloped by the wider universe. Giving the realm some possible 5-D scaling.

My Verdict

Stats
In terms of Dante's and Bayonetta's direct feats that they themselves have performed, they're both pretty impressive. Dante can fly at at least 26 times faster than light, possibly getting into the millions of times FTL ranges during his fight with Mundus. And Bayonetta can use Queen Sheba to punch the soul of Jubileus across the entire solar system within seconds. When it comes to raw strength and durability feats, Bayonetta can casually parry a skyscraper with a headbutt, catch and throw a satellite, and toss a massive space colony with just her legs. She's also survived being in the middle of a universe as it was being erased with no physical harm done to her at all. And though it was unclear at first, Hideki Kamiya has recently came out and said that at the ending of Bayonetta 3 that the power of her dance was able to consolidate the multiverse into a singular universe. Dante can casually overpower the giant Savior demon, get impaled several times and then get blasted by meteors and be perfectly fine after. Dante has also been completely unharmed by the death of Void Mundus, who was the entire void of the merged together Human and Demon Worlds.

But the story doesn't end there, as the strongest combatants in their respective verses, they can scale to any feats performed by other fighters. Mundus has a very impressive speed feat creating a universe clocking in at 587 Quadrillion times FTL, with Dante massively upscaling it by the time of Devil May Cry 5. And the demon Nightmare is stated to be able to destroy the entirety of the Demon World, who Dante also beats in DMC1 meaning he upscales this feat significantly. He's also fought against and defeated Void Mundus, who was the infinite void of the merged realm itself. More than likely granting Dante infinite speed.  And given the structure of the Demon Realm these feats while seemingly only Universal at first, would at least be Low Multiversal. With possibly arguments for Multiversal+ due to the Nightmare Space and Chaos Timeline. Bayonetta can scale above Irenic who is fast enough to cross through all of Paradiso in 24 hours, which is thousands of times larger than The World of Chaos. Which is an infinite multiverse, giving her some infinite speed scaling. Speaking of The World of Chaos' multiverse, Singularity united with the energy of said universe and was easily capable of wiping out the entirety of it, and actually did it. He could have also just snapped away the Trinity of Realities, but wanted to beat Bayonetta personally, so he kind of just chose not to do that. But his multiversal erasure even reached Ginnungagap, a place which enevelops the multiverse. Giving Bayonetta at bare minimum Multiversal+ and possibly even 5-D scaling. So due to haveing the more clear and safer bets on her speed and power, Bayo should take stats.

Arsenal

Both Dante and Bayonetta have some of the most impressively stacked arsenals ever in all of video games. They truly have an insane number of weapons and even though I didn't go over them cuz I don't really like to discuss them, items and accessories as well. And those weapons are some crazy shit too, like both having a weapon that also doubles as a means of transportation with Cavalierre and Dead End Express, and use their weapons incredibly creatively as well. Although Dante does technically have more weapons, Bayonetta has the ability to use two sets of weapons at the same time on her arms and feet. So due to just their sheer numbers and creativity with said numbers, arsenal would be a tie. But one part of Dante's arsenal is more important for another category I'll get to pretty soon.

Skill

While both have about 20 years of fighting experience with that being their profession, they're also both skilled enough to match the combat prowess of fighters who have significantly more experience than them. Bayonetta can equal both Jeanne and Balder who have been fighting for her entire 500 year long nap. And Dante can casually defeat Abilgail, a demon trained by Sparda and is over 2000 years old. So while both are impressive, I'd personally give this category a very slight edge to Dante for being able to easily defeat someone with more experience than him by a long shot, compared to Cererza only being equal to hers.

Abilities

And now for the the final and definitely most important question, how do their abilities stack up against each other? While Dante is likely weaker than Cereza using their conservative ends, his insanely broken regeneration could let him come back and keep fighting. On top of that being able to switch how he fights on the fly could potentially overwhelm the Umbra Witch. Especially with being able to block any of her attacks with Royalguard as long as he times it right. But Bayonetta isn't out of options either. While Dante could manipulate time with his Quicksilver, Bayonetta's Witch Time would even it out, and more than likely overpower it given that she can stack Witch Time on itself, which hasn't been shown that Dante could do the same thing with his Quicksilver. On top of that Bayonetta has explicity broken out of her own time being stopped by Aesir and his temporal abilities are far beyond Dante's. And while Dante and Bayonetta could potentially try and seal each other in alternate realms, they both have the means to easily break out of seals and barriers. Bayonetta could also overwhelm Dante with her summons, and especially with The Deadly Sin Ritual, even if it does make her exhausted after a bit.

Though there is one weapon that I alluded to in the arsenal category that gives me the slight edge to Dante. His Anti-Magic Rifle would be able to completely sever Bayonetta from her connection to magic and make her lose all of her abilities. While you could argue that it wouldn't work due to Jeanne being able to use her magic abilities in Singularity's field, that field only interferes with it and specifically targeted her ability to summon her Infernal Demon buddies. Compared to a singular bullet being able to completely destroy Bayonetta's powers. And as Bayonetta 3 shows, that would end up being fatal for her and leave an opening for Dante to take advantage of. So due to being able to counter a good chunk of Bayonetta's abilities while having the best trump card to himself, Abilities would go to Dante.

Conclusion

Dante

Advantages:
  • Arsenal matches Bayonetta's blow for blow
  • Is a bit more skilled in my opinion
  • Abilities mostly counter Bayonetta's
  • Royalguard is some complete and utter bullshit
  • Anti-Magic rifle would remove all of Bayonetta's powers
Disdvantages:
  • More than likely weaker than Cereza with his safest arguments
  • Less meaningful ways to affect time
  • Would be more affected by Bayonetta's time manipulation and Witch Time stacks
  • Most of his abilities also get countered

Bayonetta

Advantages:
  • More than likely far stronger than Dante
  • Arsenal matches Dante's blow for blow
  • Has the more powerful temporal abilities by far
  • Counters damn near all of Dante's options
Disadvantages:
  • Is a bit less skilled than Dante in my opinion
  • Most of her abilities also get countered
  • Royalguard is some complete and utter bullshit to deal with
  • The Anti-Magic Rifle would destroy her connection to magic and lose her powers

So while Bayonetta is undoubtably the hardest job Dante would ever take on, but due to his bullshit with Royalguard, being ever so slightly skilled and his Anti-Magic Rifle being able to take away all of Bayonetta's powers. I think Dante owuld have what he needs to send the Witch of Genesis to the depths of Inferno. The winner is Dante.
