Natsu VS Asta (Fairy Tail VS Black Clover)

Natsu, the Fire Dragon Slayer of the Fairy Tail Guild

Asta, the Anti-Magic user of the Black Bulls Brigade

The value of familial bonds aren't always linked by blood. Sometimes they're formed as a result of close friendship. And these two represent that better than almost anyone when they joined their groups of friends so close that they became like family to them. But whose desire to protect their family is stronger? That's why I'm here. I'm going to list over their powers, arsenal and abilities to figure out who I believe would win a DEATH BATTLE!.

Before I Start

For both characters analyses the primary sources will be the manga, with the additional canon movies and anime canon episodes that have been later referenced in the main manga for both. Also be warned there are massive spoilers for both Black Clover and Fairy Tail in this blog. Like big end game manga spoilers for both so do tread lightly if you decide to read this.

I'll also be linking blogs that I referenced in the making of this one and other resources I used to help this blog come to life.

Background

Natsu

About 400 years ago, a young Natsu Dragneel was living peacefully in a small remote town with his older brother Zeref and his parents. That was until one day invading dragons razed his village to the ground, killing him and everyone in that village with just one survivor, being Zeref. Grief stricken by the loss of his brother Zeref would spend years studying magic theory and inventing new magic systems to bring him back. But this would be Zeref's undoing, as due to his desire to disobey the laws of nature, he was cursed by a god. This curse would inflict death upon every life that Zeref cared about, with the more he cared for life the more death would happen. And the less he cared about life the less death he caused. And on top of that he was cursed with immortality and he stopped being able to age or die. Due to this Zeref would use all the magic he studied to create demons whose end goal was to finally able to kill Zeref. And using this he was finally able to bring Natsu back by giving him a body made of Etherious, and he was declared Zeref's ultimate and strongest demon who was given the name Etherious Natsu Dragneel, or E.N.D. for short.

Though this version of Natsu was reborn specifically to kill Zeref, he would still need time to grow stronger, so he went to his dragon friend, The Fire Dragon King Igneel to ask him to raise Natsu. And Igneel would teach Natsu how to read and write, but most notably teach him his own brand of magic, that being Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Natsu would spend years with his new Dragon dad and due to their father-son bond, Igneel would give Natsu a scarf knitted from his own scales for Natsu to wear as a present. But Natsu wasn't just given to Igneel so he could be raised to eventually kill Zeref. This was a part of a greater plan that Zeref came up with alongside Natsu's other mentor Anna Heartfilia and the other dragons that took in humans to raise. This plan was to send the Dragon Slayer kids into the future era with a far larger abundance of ethernano to finally help take down the Black Dragon, Acnologia.

So one day, Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers were finally sent 400 years into the future and arrived on the day of July 7 x777. But when Natsu awoke from the travel, Igneel was no wear to be found. Feeling abondend by his dad he walked into a nearby forest to go look for him but still wasn't able to. But something he did find was the third and current guild master of the Fairy Tail Guild, Makarov Dreyar. Makarov seeing the lost youth instantly offered Natsu to join his guild with Natsu readily accepting. After joining the guild he made fast friends with practically everyone there, most notably Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlett, Cana Alberona, Levy McGarden and after they joined the three Strauss siblings, Mirajane, Elfman and Lisanna. Natsu would even find a random egg that fell in the forest one day and raised it to hatch alongside Lisanna. And when it did hatch a weird blue flying cat creature that could also talk came out of it. And when he immediately made the guild hall full of happiness, Natsu decided to name the cat Happy. Natsu would spend years with his new family in the Fairy Tail Guild, with his nature of causing destruction with his fire earning him the nickname Salamander.

On one of his and Happy's adventures to try and find Igneel, they would encounter the novice wizard and one of Anna's descendants, Lucy Heartfilia. After a mishap that lead to Natsu destroying part of a town he learned that Lucy wanted to join Fairy Tail. And without a second thought he immediately took her to the guild to welcome the new member. With her and the rest of his friends, Natsu would go on adventure after adventure, getting more powerful as he goes and even gaining new friends and allies. And eventually after a couple time-skips Natsu was able to defeat Zeref and Acnologia. And after another time-skip Natsu and the rest of his motley crew decide to take on the most dangerous job ever for the sake of adventure, The 100 Year Quest.


Asta

In the world of Black Clover your status and aptitude for magic determine your place in the world. Too bad for a young lad named Asta, he had neither. Left on the doorstep of a church as a baby by his mother as a way to protect him, he grew up as a peasant with another boy who was left on the church's door named Yuno as a brother figure, the church's nun Lily as  a sort of big sister, and the church's priest as an adoptive father figure. Asta and Yuno would even develop a sort of rivalry in which they were always competing to see which of them would come out on top. This culminated when they turned 15 as that was they day they were to receive their grimoires. But while Yuno got the prestigious 4 Leaf Clover Grimoire, Asta was the only one to leave completely empty handed. While this didn't affect him at first when he encountered an enemy with chains that reveal the nature of his opponents magic, Asta learned the sad truth. And that was that he had no magic whatsoever. Upon hearing this his determination waned until he heard his brother and rivals voice to spur him on again. And when he gained his resolve again a special 5 Leaf Clover Grimoire came to him. And within the fifth leaf, resides devils. On top of that with it came something entirely different from Magic, Anti-Magic. After defeating the enemy Asta and Yuno promise to each other once again that one of them will become the Wizard King.

Six months after the fact, Asta and Yuno decide to enter the Magic Knights Entrance Exam. Though he struggled at first due to his unique lack of mana, he would eventually show off his own unique strengths. This was enough to impress the captain of the Black Bulls Squad Yami Sukehiro who immediately offered Asta a spot on his crew even when no other captain would. Though the Black Bulls were seen as the worst of the worst being misfits who caused more problems than they solved, Asta fit right in with them. And due to Asta's influence the Black Bulls starting going from the worst Brigade to one of the best. And with his rival Yuno joining the Golden Dawn, seen as the best Brigade the two would continue to motivate the other to become the Wizard King. 

Eventually Asta found out that he had an adoptive brother in the form of a Devil that happened to reside within his Grimoire, Liebe. And while their relationship started off rocky after Asta learned the truth of what happened to his mom the two became true brothers. With their bond even giving them a new form as the two united to become one. And they would use their Devil Union to fight off various foes but mostly Devils who wanted to destroy the world and through their bond they were able to succeed. And about a year and three months later Asta would get one step closer to his goal of the Wizard King as he was promoted to a 1st Class Senior Magic Knight.

Though his struggles weren't over yet as his strongest opponent came crawling to Asta, that person being the other soul that resides within the current Wizard King, Lucius Zogratis. But after an intense 7-day training session and the help of Yuno once again and the complete unificaton of his and Liebe's bond they defeated the monstrous threat. Just solidifying that he should definitely be considered to be the next Wizard King. Although he might not be the Wizard King currently but with the Black Bulls by his side and his rival Yuno to keep him motivated there's no doubt that Asta will one day become the Wizard King and achieve his dream.


Skill & Experience

Natsu

Although Natsu is normally lacking in his ability to do almost anything that requires his brain, in combat his skill is practically second to none. When in combat he's seemingly a master of hand to hand combat of both the magical and non magical variety. This is most notably shown in his fight with Gajeel against the Twin Dragons, Sting & Rogue. As after deliberately getting hit a bunch, he was able to determine Sting's fighting style down to the rhythym of his breathing. And after that completely dominated the two of them by himself without getting hit once while both were in Dragon Force. And his combat genius was even further expanded by the time of 100 Year Quest. Most notably in his rematch with Suzaku as though he was one-shot by him before, in their rematch he came up with a spell to counter him on the fly. Natsu even adapted to Suzaku's speed and movements in their rematch. And Suzaku even referred to Natsu's combat sense as genius. He's also quick enough on his feet to come up with a strategy to defeat a Wizard who could nullify magic.

Asta


Arsenal & Equipment

Natsu
Igneel's Scarf

Given to him as a present from his dragon dad Igneel, this scarf is made of Igneel's own scales. They were molted down and then knitted into a scarf by Anna Heartfilia and given to Natsu as a type of good luck charm. This scarf is even seen to be able to block out Zeref's Ankhersham Black Magic as it completely absorbed it despite it causing death to everything else surrounding Zeref and Natsu. Though after getting hit with it, the scarf turned black and Natsu wasn't able to be healed by Wendy, and she had to lift the curse of the scarf before being able to heal Natsu.

Asta

Grimoire

In the world of Black Clover, all mages carry a book with them called a Grimoire. This book stores all the spells that the mage learns within it and is tied to the users soul. They are usually hidden away when not in combat as it basically pops into existence whenever the mage needs to cast a spell. And Asta's Grimoire is a special case as it used to be a 4 Leaf Clover Grimoire belonging to the Elf Licht. But after Licht watched his kind get massacred the despair he felt turned the Grimoire into a 5 Leaf Clover which persists after the owners death and allows them to be inhabited by devils, which allowed the book to serve as a place for Liebe to stay for years, before it was inherited by Asta. And since this Grimoire used to belong to Licht it allows him to use his weapons that were stored in it.

Demon Slayer 

The first of many Anti-Magic Swords Asta received from his Grimoire. Demon Slayer is a massive great-sword that has the ability to completely cut through and negate magic whether with the edge. And if the blunt side of the sword is used he can even deflect back magic as his opponent. He can cut through and dissolves projectiles and can bonk people on the head with its hilt to negate magic that controls the mind of a person. Though the sword only cuts through magic, as when used on a person it operates more like a blunt weapon rather than a big sword. He can also channel Anti-Magic through the sword and then ride on top of it in order to fly as a means of transportation.

Demon Dweller


The second of Asta's Anti-Magic swords that he found while within a dungeon. This sword has the same ability to cut through and negate magic that Demon Slayer does, but can also absorb in magic and then release it in a flying slash attack. He can also do this without having to absorb in magic from others by channeling his own Anti-Magic into the sword before releasing it. He can also use Demon Dweller to empower his allies with his own Anti-Magic to boost their power. 

Demon Destroyer


The third and most unique Anti-Magic sword that Asta got during his fight against Patry. The reason this one is the more unique of the two I previously covered is for its ability, Causality Break. This ability summons black tendrils from the blade that severs the cause from the effect from a spell to undo magic and anything that has been effected by magic.

Demon Slasher


The final of Asta's Anti-Magic swords and my personal favorite. This was given to him by his Brigade Captain Yami Sukehiro, it does what the other Anti-Magic swords do, negating magic and all that. But it also has the unique trait to choose what Asta wants to cut, so even if an ally is in the way of a spell launched with Demon Slayer, they won't be harmed.

Liebe


The devil that resided within Asta's Grimoire and granted him his Anti-Magic. He also happens to be Asta's adoptive brother since he was raised by Asta's birth mom. Liebe is the primary source of Asta's Anti-Magic and when Asta's fighting Liebe is in a chibi form and perches on his shoulder. He can even communicate with Asta telepathically through their minds being linked.

Abilities

Natsu
Fire Dragon Slayer Magic

Natsu's main ability is the magic that he was taught from his dragon dad Igneel, Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. As you can probably tell by the name this magic is used to slay dragons through the manipulation of the element of fire. It grants him the characteristics and abilities of a fire dragon as well, such as breathing fire and he can even use fire to propel himself and "fly". This magic also lets him be able to eat fire to replenish his magic and stamina should they get low, while also healing Natsu of his injuries. Though this comes with a catch as he cannot eat his own fire. He also has a decent catalogue of spells he can use with Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Those being;
  • Fire Dragon's Roar: Natsu breathes out a large torrent of fire from his mouth, he can do this by either forming a trumpet with his hands and blowing through that or just breathing out the fire in general.
  • Fire Dragon's Iron Fist: Natsu wraps one or both of his fists in fire and then delivers a powerful punch. He can also use this move as a sort of booster to his speed when his hands are behind him.
  • Fire Dragon's Talon/Claw: Natsu wraps one of both of his legs in fire usually while upside down to deliver a kick to usually the head of his opponent.
  • Fire Dragon's Sword Horn: Natsu engulfs his whole body in flame and then jettisons toward his opponent and delivers a powerful headbutt to his opponent.
  • Fire Dragon's Wing Attack: Natsu wraps his arms in fire then propels himself to his opponent to clothesline them at high speeds and power.
  • Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame: Natsu gathers fire in his hands that grows into a massive fireball that Natsu then launches to his opponent.
  • Fire Dragon's Flame Elbow: Natsu lights his elbow on fire to propel himself forward to deliver high speed punches.
  • Fire Dragon's Crushing Fang: Natsu lights his fists on fire similar to Fire Dragon's Iron Fist, but instead uses his hands in a more scratch like manner to basically scratch his opponent with massive power.
  • Fire Dragon's Grip Strike: Natsu rushes toward his opponent and then palms his enemy and then proceeds to propel fire from his hand to burn them and point blank range.
He also has a good chunk of more advanced spells of the Fire Dragon Slayer variety known as secret arts which are more powerful and Natsu typically uses them as finishing moves. With those being:

Flames of Emotion


Natsu's fire is special as its described as the Flame of Emotions, in which his power output matches and responds to his feelings which results in powerful attacks beyond what he's normally capable of. These flames are so strong that they were able to completely halt Fairy Heart Zeref's ability to heal and burn through time itself, as he was using that power to heal in the first place. Though in order to bring this ability out to its fullest potential Natsu needs to set his very soul on fire and it results in a massive burn on his arm after the fight.

Superhuman Senses


Thanks to his training as a Dragon Slayer, Natsu's senses are all dramatically better than that of a normal persons. He was able to hear Lucy from the stands while she was fighting in the arena several floors below, while also being surrounded by people with commentators on the loudspeakers. He also has a keen sense of smell and is able to detect someone from just that like a bloodhound, and seems to never forget a scent once he gets a whiff. 

Asta

Anti-Magic


Due to his unique stance as a being that completely lacks Mana, Asta's body was suited to wield Anti-Magic. As you can tell by the name Ant-Magic is used to nullify the effects of Magic used against him, and he can channel it into his swords to attack people and also use it to fly on one of his swords like the other mages due with brooms.


Ki Sensing





Bull Thrust

Asta charges forward at high speeds and then brings his Demon Slayer and Demon Slayer swords together while channeling Anti-Magic through them and points them forward to hit is opponent like a raging bull. He can also do a variant of this move with only one of the two swords mentioned called the One-Horned Bull Thrust.

Black Meteorite


While channeling Anti-Magic throughout his body in his Black Asta form, Asta rushes to his opponent at high speed and then delivers a slash with either his Demon Slayer or Demon Dweller swords. And if Asta is charging through a spell with this move, the spell will be cut through with no harm coming to Asta. He can even change directions with this move regardless of how fast he's going.


Black Hurricane

While in his Black Asta form in order to channel Anti-Magic throughout his body Asta spins rapidly with his Demon Slayer Sword and coats his surroundings with Anti-Magic to cancel out massive spells. This move is so powerful that it even cleared out a battlefield covered in trap spells in just one go.

Black Divider


While holding his Demon Slayer sword, Asta condenses a massive amount of Anti-Magic into it allowing it to grow massively in size which results in his attack being way more powerful, and being able to hit people from a far distance.

Black Slash


Asta channels Anti-Magic into his Demon-Dweller sword and swings it which then releases the stored Anti-Magic in a horizontal slash that cuts through magic while also having actual force behind it to hit his opponents with.

Infinite Slash Equinox


Asta channels Anti-Magic into his Demon Slasher Katana and then performs a downward slash that then travels as an Anti-Magic slash wave that can travel for miles without dulling. This move also chooses what to cut so if allies are in the way they won't be harmed by this move at all.

Zetten


During his time in The Land of the Sun, Asta developed the advanced ki techn-ique known as Zetten. By manipulating his ki precisely, Asta builds up his Anti-Magic and then releases it in a single motion, usually swinging his sword. And when used as a single strike it typically multiplies the force of the attack by 20 times. There are many ways to use Zetten, either a single strike with all the power or over multiple hits that are weaker with equal percent. Though the way Asta uses it, is as a counterattack, just after his opponent uses a spell in order to cancel out the spell with his stored and released Anti-Magic and deal devastating damage.


Forms

Natsu
Lightning Flame Dragon Mode

After consuming lightning from Laxus in his fight against Hades, Natsu was able to use that lightning in tandem with his fire in this form. This form drastically increases his speed and power output as well as giving him new versions of his Fire Dragon Slayer spells that also now include lightning. With those being.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Roar: An alternate version of Natsu's Fire Dragon's Roar. Natsu conjures up lightning as well as fire in his mouth before letting it out in a massive roar that causes massive destruction in its wake. Though this move does take a toll on Natsu and drains him of his magic energy far faster then his other moves, although as he get stronger the energy drained lessened.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Iron Fist: An alternate version of Fire Dragon's Iron Fist; Natsu gathers lightning and fire in his hand and punches his opponent with that fist of flame and lightning. This also shocks his opponent after burning them.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Brilliant Flame: An alternate version of Fire Dragon's Brilliant Flame. Natsu gathers a massive amount fire in hand and lightning in the other before fusing them together and launching it as a massive ball of flames and lightning.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Firing Hammer: Natsu engulfs one of his fists in a massive amount of swirling fire and lightning before performing a punching motion that then unleashes a blast of a massive fusion of flames and lightning.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Strike: Natsu rushes at his opponent before delivering a punch with his fist engulfed in flames and lightning.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Talon/Claw: An alternate version of Fire Dragon's Talons/Claw. Natsu engulfs his feet in flames and lightning in order for his kicks to dish out even more destructive power.
  • Lightning Flame Dragon's Fang: What seems to be an alternate version of Fire Dragon's Wing Attack. Natsu gathers flame and lightning in his hands and forearms before rushing toward his opponent to deliver a clothesline.
  • Crimson Lotus: Exploding Lightning Blade: An alternate version of Crimson Lotus: Exploding Flame Blade. Natsu gathers fire in one hand and lightning in the other, before moving them in a sweeping motion which launches the fire and lighting at his enemy in a vortex like manner

Lightning Dragon Mode


Should Natsu lose the ability to use his Fire magic for whatever reason, he can choose to use just the lightning magic from Lightning Flame Dragon Mode by itself. And for whatever reason while in this form he has a lightning shaped scare on his eye just like Laxus does. This also comes with its own unique spells, such as:
  • Lightning Dragon's Sword Horn: Natsu covers his entire body in lightning before rocketing towards his opponent at incredible speeds to deliver a high power headbutt.
  • Lightning Dragon's Iron Fist: Natsu engulfs his fist in lightning before delivering a high powered punch that also leaves an after shock.

Fire Dragon King Mode


After enduring 10 months of high intensity training Natsu was able to use the power of the Fire Dragon King and his adoptive dad Igneel. Though the full power of this form was lost after his first fight against Zeref due to Igneel's power disappearing, Natsu can use his own fire as a meaningful substitute which still results in a more powerful form than his base form of LFDM. It also comes with a catalogue of new spells with those being:
  • Fire Dragon King's Destruction Fist: Natsu conjures up a massive amount and winds up his fist and then punches his opponent with enough force that it can shatter opponents to bits and pieces.
  • Fire Dragon King's Roar: An uber powerful version of the Fire Dragon's Roar. It does basically the same thing but is so powerful that it wiped out almost 1,000 soldiers in one go while also completely destroying a massive amount of earth that was in its way.
  • Fire Dragon King's Purgatory: Natsu engulfs his body in flame as well as his opponent and surroundings to burn them before delivering an uppercut that results in a massive explosion.
  • Fire Dragon King's Brilliant Flame: Natsu conjures up a massive dark ball of flames within his hands and then launches it at his opponent kind of like a Kamehameha.
  • Fire Dragon King's Scales: Natsu covers parts of his arm with the scales of a dragon in order to block out strong attacks and increase his durability significantly.

E.N.D.

When the demon seed within Natsu's body expanded due to his intense negative emotions upon seeing Lucy non-responsive and assuming she was dead, the demon E.N.D. awoke within Natsu. While in this form his desire to kill his creator Zeref is awakened due to him being an Etherious. Though he still has the ability to act on his free will. His appearance also changes as he gains demon-like claws and significantly darker flames. And as a demon his magic is replaced by something called Curses, which while similar to magic it's both stronger and unable to be effected by magic nullifying or draining effects, like Face. And Natsu can seemingly control this form at will as he turned the form off after his fight with Gray. He also has the same spells as before though they're powered by Curses instead of magic as well as one unique attack.
  • Get Out of The Way : Natsu slams one of his fists into the ground which results in multiple fire pillars coming from up underneath the ground to surround his opponent.

Dragon Force

The Ultimate ability of a Dragon Slayer is that of Dragon Force. Think of it like Super Saiyan but for Dragon Slayers. In this form the Dragon Slayer's power is said to be able to match that of even a real dragon. And while Dragon Force appears differently for every Dragon Slayer, in Natsu's case it covers is body in dragon scales and gives his flames a golden color, and sometimes even gives him horns made of that golden fire. It also buffs his physical stats at least two to three times over but can be argued to a three to 4 times multiplier instead. And in this form its revealed that his flames take on the properties of the other Fire Dragons that he's encountered. Natsu can use even more powerful secret arts and spells with those being,
  • Hidden Fire Form Crimson/Flame Lotus: Phoenix Blade/Sword: A seemingly more powerful version of Fire Dragon Sword Horn, typically used in a stronger form I'll talk about later. Natsu envelops himself in flame and then charges at his opponent to deliver a devastating headbutt.
  • Purgatory Slashing Dragon Fire: Natsu lights his fist with the combined fires from the fire dragons he's learned from into his own fire then propels himself to his enemy to hit them with a powerful gut check that results in an explosion that pierces through the body.

King Fire


Natsu's newest form which is somewhat similar to Fire Dragon King Mode as the thing that awakened it was Igneel's fire. And after consuming that fire from Bestia, his and Igneels flames combined to create what Laxus calls King Fire. In this form his appearance is slightly modified as he has flaming horns, and his scarf is constantly on fire. This seems to be a combination of Fire Dragon King Mode, Dragon Force and his E.N.D. Form as he has dragon scales on his face along with the mark of the Fire Dragon King on his right arm. And his power is described as being that of a Dragon Demon by Selene. And on top of all that this form was powerful enough to completely burn away Aldoron's massive body and can match power with Ignia and the Black Wizard Faris. 

Asta

Black Asta

After a visit to the witch queen in order to heal his arms, the witch queen removed the limit on Asta's Anti-Magic, Asta learned to channel it throughout his entire body instead of just through his swords. The Anti-magic channeled even covered the right side of his body, turning his eye red, giving him a horn and a wing on the right side of his body. In this form Asta's mind is cleared and he gains a massive boost to his speed, power and durability, and on top of that he can fly. This form also hones in on powerful magic and mana which lets Asta react to spells unconsciously while in his Black Asta form. In order for him to enter this form he had to stand still with one of his swords and concentrate at first, though after the year long timeskip he learned how to enter it passively. And on top of that after completing Devil Union with Liebe (more on that later) the Black Asta form changed in appearance as well, giving him two wings and two horns as well as both eyes being red with marks over them. In this state Asta generates an area of Anti-Magic around him passively that is strong enough to nullify Julius' giant time spell.

Devil Union


After defeating Liebe in a fight, instead of Asta subjugating him, he chose to cooperate with the devil as equals. And after this the two of them would train to attain the form of a sort of fusion between man and devil called a Devil Union. In this form all of Asta's abilities and stats are enhanced greatly and he was able to defeat multiple strong devils with it. And on top of that when he and Liebe became true brothers and came to understand each other they unlocked True Devil Union, which is even stronger. Though this form does have a drawback as it only has a five minute time limit, where after the time is up Asta will be in excruciating pain and unable to enter Devil Union or Black Asta for half an hour. Though he did learn during the timeskip that if he used Devil Union on just a part of his body instead of his full body he can double the time limit from 5 to 10 minutes. 


 Perfect Devil Union

During his and Yuno's final battle against Lucius, Asta and Liebe's thoughts and feelings fully became one and the same allowing them to perfect their Devil Union. This form drastically increases their power and speed enough to harm Lucius considerably and even take him down with Yuno and Noelle's help.

Asta

  • Magic: With Anti-Magic Asta is able to negate various forms of magic and can even generate passive aura of Anti-Magic that dispels any magic that gets near him.
  • Information Analysis: Asta was able to mimic the movements and sword fighting style of Kiato, who puts himself in a trance to make it almost impossible for his movements to be predicted and ki to be read.
  • Life Force Draining: Asta was able to negate the effects of Zagred's spell, which can drain the life force from a person.
  • Madness manipulation: The Demon Slayer Sword let Asta delve into Patry's soul where he felt madness and despair and ultimately managed to resist it trying to affect him
  • Possession and Mind Control: Asta fought off Liebe's attempts to possess him and take over his body and mind.
  • Temperature Manipulation: In Black Asta, Asta's Anti-Magic protected him from the intense heat that was impossible to tolerate without Mana Skin to protect the mages
  • Time Manipulation: Asta was able to enter into Black Form within Lucius' Chronostasis spell which freezes time in that area.
  • Precognition: Lucius is unable to tell the future of his current timeline despite being able to see the futures of thousands of others due to Asta's influence.

Fairy Tail

Natsu is considered as one of the strongest members of the Fairy Tail Guild. While he didn't start off that way he is currently stronger than the likes of Erza who used to be significantly stronger than him. And he could even stalemate a member of the Dark Dragon Slayer Knights, whose power was comparable to the previously uncontested strongest member of the guild, Gildarts Clive. 

Spriggan 12


The Spriggan 12 were Zeref's elite squad of wizards and also the 12 strongest on the Alvarez Empire, with only Zeref himself being stronger. And as Natsu defeated Zeref when he had the power of Fairy Heart, he should upscale from their feats.




Acnologia and the Dragon Gods

While Natsu did need significant help to initially defeat Acnologia he has since gone on to kill both Aldoron and Viernes by himself and is currently fighting against Ignia. And Elefseria has stated that the power of the Dragon Gods matches that of Acnologia's so therefore Natsu should scale.

Dragon Cry & The Phoenix

Natsu directly overpowered the Dragon Cry itself in that movie, and the Phoenix was said to be a match for base form Zeref. And since Natsu beat Zeref when he had absorbed Fairy Heart he should scale.

Asta
Black Bulls

Asta is straight up the strongest member of The Black Bulls so he should upscale from their feats.

Magic Knight Captains


Asta was able to actually put up a fight and even easily defeat some of Lucius' paladins, something that the Captains were mostly unable to do.

Dark Triad & Devils


Asta directly defeated Dante with 80% of his Devil Power and then went on to defeat the even more powerful 60% manifested Lucifero. And after the year long timeskip he went on to be even stronger so he should scale to both them and their Devils.

Wizard Kings & Yuno Grinberryall


The strongest Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom. While at first the idea that Asta scales to them sounds ridiculous he has more than enough proof that he should scale. But I really only need to bring up that he defeated the Wizard King before Julius in a 1 on 1 confrontation. And Yuno scales to the same level as he did the same. With them getting even stronger and being the only ones who can fight against Julius' other soul Lucius who is even stronger, with them ultimately defeating him.

Weaknesses

Natsu

Even with his numerous strengths he possesses, Natsu does have his fair share of weaknesses. The most notable one being that thanks to his super Dragon Slayer being on any type of motion vehicle will immediately cause him immense motion sickness. His Fire Magic is usually countered by Water Magic, and if Natsu has to resort to his Flames of Emotion it will end up hurting him significantly as well. He's also highkey a complete fucking idiot when not in combat.


Asta


Even though Asta has a great amount of strengths, he does have a good chunk of weaknesses as well. While powerful his Devil Union Forms can only last up to 10 minutes (for the most part, not much is known about Perfect Devil Union yet). He's also incredibly headstrong and immune to giving up which can sometimes come as a detriment. And when he's not in a combat situation he's lowkey a fucking idiot sometimes.


My Verdict


Strength
To start let's talk strength, both Natsu and Asta have some impressive strength showings. With the current best strength feat that Natsu gets himself is making that massive fire pillar on top of Aldoron that can get to a little over 107 Petatons. And Asta's best feat of direct strength would be him destroying the massive meteor summoned by Conrad's Doom Gate that gets to 2.4 Exatons. So comparing their direct feats Asta would be a little over 22 times stronger. But that's not where this ends exactly. Comparing the best scaling that both of them get with Natsu getting Selene making the moon bigger and Asta getting Dante's black hole at 2.87 Yottatons and 281 Zettatons would make Natsu 10 times stronger. But there's still more to discuss as both have forms and abilities that multiply their strength with Natsu's Dragon Force multiplying his stats by 4 times and Asta's Zetten technique increasing his ki and power output by 20. So when multiplying the Dante's Black Hole feat by 20 it comes out to 5.62 Yottatons which is 1.9 times stronger than the moon feat. But when applying the Dragon Force multiplier to the moon feat it comes out to 11.48 Yottatons which is just over 2 times stronger than the Zetten multiplier. So while it is a close category Natsu would ultimately take the edge in strength as he would consistently be about 10 times stronger when both are using feats that aren't multiplied and even when they are Natsu would still be twice as strong. And on top of that Dragon Force is a form that Natsu can consistently stay in compared to Zetten which is a singular move. So Natsu takes strength.

Speed

Next up is speed, comparing their most direct feats once again would be Natsu dodging Sting's laser of a White Dragon Roar at 9% the Speed of Light and Asta blocking the Ray of Divine Judgement at 15% the Speed of Light. So when comparing these feats Asta would be 1.66 times faster. But as you can probably guess if you've read the blog thus far they both have far more high end scaling for their speed feats. With the best they get being Selene blitzing Suzaku and his guild master which have hilariously the same value of being 30.34 times faster than light. And Asta getting Yuno blocking a myriad of light beams from the Paladins at 478.48 times faster than light. So Asta would be about 15 times faster, kind of. See Natsu's Dragon Force also multiplies his speed by 4 times so the Selene feat can get up to 121.36 times faster than light. Impressive but it still falls short of Asta's best scaling by close to 4 times. So Asta takes speed.

Skill & Experience

When it comes to skill they both have arguments that could put one over the other. With Natsu being able to adapt to his opponents entire fighting style after just seeing it for a couple minutes, and Asta being able to predict his enemies movements and intentions with his high trained body and ki. And on top of that Natsu has experience fighting someone with the ability to nullify magic and quickly came up with a strategy to win. And Asta is able to mimic Kiato's movements which make him practically unable to be predicted. So due to all of these factors I would give skill a tie. Though when it comes to combat experience Natsu does have more as he's been a Fairy Tail Wizard operating in high stakes battles for significantly more years compared to Asta's Magic Knighthood being about 2 years.

Abilities
When it comes to their abilities, this was a tricky one to find a victor for. As they both have the means to completely counter the other. As Asta's powerful Anti-Magic would nullify most of Natsu's powerful magic, but as Natsu's physical strength scales to his magic his punches and kicks would still be just as powerful. But even if they weren't Natsu's King Fire as Laxus calls seems to use Curse Power given Selene's remark which would mean that in that form Anti-Magic wouldn't work on him. But even with Anti-Magic not effecting Natsu's Curses his physical strength still scales as shown by him destroying that massive meteor. So since they both have abilities that counter each other's main gimmick and their punches, kicks and sword swings still scale anyway they would get a tie in their abilities.

Stamina/Endurance 

This would seemingly be a complete non factor in most matchups I'd cover but given the unique ways their stats and abilities play off of each other it's somehow the most necessary to determine the victor. While both have their own impressive showings of stamina, in their base forms Asta would last slightly longer as he managed to fight against Nacht for almost 2 days straight, compared to Natsu who also fought for a couple days straight during the war with the Alvarez Empire but he had the luxury of being able to rest in between most of those fights. However when comparing just how long they can go at their maximum potential, Natsu gets the clear edge as most of Natsu's forms don't have a time limit, compared to Asta's Devil Union only lasting a maximum of 10 minutes before Asta is unable to move due to the excruciating pain it leaves his body in. Which gives Natsu a clear opening to take advantage of to win the fight and even if he could still fight after his time limit was up, Natsu's power in Dragon Force far eclipses Asta's base power, so Natsu takes stamina/endurance.

Conclusion

Natsu

Advantages:
  • Stronger, whether it be in base or in higher forms
  • His forms last longer giving him the option to one-shot

  • Curse Power would render the magic nullifying of Asta's Anti-Magic useless
  • His physical stats scale to his magic meaning even if Asta's Anti-Magic wasn't useless he could still kill him with his punches and kicks.

While Asta does hold his fair share of advantages and win-cons with him being faster and Anti-Magic shutting down a lot of what Natsu can do. But Natsu simply just has more, being stronger in both base and higher forms with said higher forms not having a time limit and on top of that his Curse Power would be unaffected by Asta's Anti-Magic. So, due to this factors I believe that the winner of an extremely hard fought victory would be Natsu Dragneel
