Nico di Angelo VS Death the Kid (Percy Jackson VS Soul Eater)

Death the Kid, the son of Lord Death and The Grim Reaper

Tales of what happens when we die have existed for well over thousands of years. And today I'm putting two of the children of the most notable representations against each other. Will The Son of Hades put down the Grim Reaper. Or will the Reaper collect the demigods soul. It's my job to figure out which of these two sons of death I think would win a DEATH BATTLE!

Before I Start

The analysis for Nico will focus on the original Percy Jackson & The Olympians novels, The Heroes of Olympus novels, The Trials of Apollo Novels and The Nico di Angelo Adventures novels. As well as the graphic novels as a secondary source. 

For Death the Kid the analysis will be focused on the original Soul Eater manga as the anime ends up being incredibly contradictory towards the end of its run. As well as stuff from Soul Eater NOT! And spoiler warning, the parts of Fire Force that are relevant to Soul Eater as it's prequel will also be analyzed.

And also I'll be linking the various sources that helped me to create this blog as usual by now.

Background

Nico di Angelo

Nico di Angelo's life wasn't an easy one. Born over 70 years ago to the Greek god of the Dead and ruler of the Underworld, Hades and mortal woman Maria di Angelo, Nico became the second born demigod child of this relationship. And for about the first 6 years of his life, it was a good one as he spent time with his older sister Bianca and his mother while they lived in Italy. But around the time of World War II the three of them moved to the United States and lived in a fancy hotel in Washington D.C. for a time. And during this time Nico would become obsessed with a game focused on Greek mythology called Mythomagic. But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Due to the fact that most of World War II was the children of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades fighting each other and because of a prophecy that involves their children the three gods would swear an oath to not sire any more children. But as Nico and Bianca were already born Zeus wanted Hades to bring them to him. So Hades went to visit his mortal lover Maria and tried to convince her to take refuge in the Underworld and bring their children with her. But as that was happening Zeus sent a massive lightning bolt to the hotel and while Hades was able to protect the two children, he wasn't able to protect their mother in time and she sadly died.

A devastated and heartbroken Hades then ordered his leading Fury to take the two siblings and bathe them in the River Lethe to wipe away their memories. And after that was done he had the two stay at the Lotus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas where they spent the next 70 years. Though to Nico and Bianca it only felt like they stayed a few months. After those years past Alecto came back to get Nico and Bianca out and enrolled them into the Westover Hall military school where they spent the next couple months. Until one day where Nico's life would change forever. On the day of the school dance they would attempt to be kidnapped by one of their teachers who turned out to be a monster known as the Manticore. But thankfully a group of demigods led by Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon and Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus had arrived to protect them and if that wasn't enough even Artemis and her squad of Hunters arrived and helped out. And upon meeting these new demigods after the threat was dealt with, Nico became incredibly excited as it was like seeing his favorite game come to life. Right after this though Nico would learn some news that he didn't take well as his sister decided to leave him in order to join the girls of the Hunters of Artemis. 

But there was some good news coming Nico's way as he was now on his way to Camp Half-Blood where he would end up in the Hermes Cabin due to his undetermined status. And he would come to view the people in the Hermes Cabin as his surrogate family and had fun with them. Sadly his happy times at Camp Half-Blood would soon be ending. After making Percy promise to sneak off Camp and go on a quest to protect his sister, and after Percy came back without her, Nico snapped in anger at Percy for breaking their promise and ran away from Camp. After he ran away Nico learned of his heritage as the Son of Hades and took refuge within the Labyrinth alongside King Minos and tried to find a way to bring Bianca back to life. Though Bianca herself would actually send out a message to Percy in his dreams in order for him to find and protect Nico. And after a bunch of convincing, including a conversation with Bianca's ghost Nico finally decides to abandon Minos and take his place as the ghost king and help Percy and the rest of the demigods to defend Camp Half Blood from an attack led by the liege of the Titan Lord Kronos, Luke Castellan. Soon after the Camp's victory, Nico would take his leave once again, just to pop up at Percy's apartment during his 15th birthday party to discuss a dangerous plan he had that would help Percy in the upcoming war. Though Percy didn't have an answer for this yet.

A few months later in the winter of that same year, he Percy and Thalia would be summoned to the Underworld by Nico's very own stepmother Persephone. The reason for this was that a weapon she was forging for Nico's father Hades in secret and it was stolen by a demigod on the side of Kronos. And since she can't steal it back due to ancient laws she summoned Nico and the other two demigod children of the Big Three to recover it. And since Nico wanted to make his father proud he decided to accept his stepmothers quest. So he Percy and Thalia went on an adventure throughout the Underworld in order to recover the weapon and after a scrap with one of the Titans who they defeat by wiping his memories, the recover the sword and give it back to Persephone. Though due to the fact that the weapon was being forged in secret which was against the ancient laws Hades confiscates the weapon and has it destroyed. After this the trio was returned to the surface where Nico would once again ask Percy to think about his plan before leaving again.

In the following summer the second war between the gods and Titans began again with Nico helping out the side of the gods and demigods from the shadows. And he approached Percy with his plan to make Percy invulnerable by having him bathe in the River Styx. With Percy finally accepting though he was reluctant to do so. So Nico took Percy and some quick trips to visit his mom to get her blessing and then to the house of May Castellan so the two can understand Luke better. After which Nico finally took Percy to the Underworld and led him to the River Styx and guided Percy on what he needed to do. And when Percy emerged he became completely and utterly invulnerable except for a spot on the small of his back. Hades disapproved of this though and tried to send members of his undead army to kill Percy but that didn't work out as he cut through them like butter and then sent hades himself fleeing. Percy then thanked Nico and offered to take him out of the Underworld but Nico decided to stay in order to convince Hades to join the war effort and to learn more about his mother. 

And Nico was successful in doing both as both he and Hades showed up at a massive turning point during the Battle of Manhattan with Nico even leading a battalion of the dead into battle which even overwhelms Kronos with his fathers help. Though this was the last of Nico's contributions during the Battle of Manhattan he would soon learn of Kronos' defeat at the hands of Percy and the gods would hold a conference where they handed out gifts and rewards to the gods and demigods who came to help them. Which included giving Hades a permanent seat as one of the Olympians and finally accepting him, which meant that Hades would also get a cabin at Camp Half-Blood with Nico being the one to design it with the help of his summoned skeletons. 






Death the Kid

After the Great Cataclysm was ended thanks to the hero Shinra Kusakabe and his brother Sho and their mother Mari a New World was created in place of the old one. In this New World the value of life was decreased and humans was no longer need their pyrokinetic abilities and the threat of spontaneous human combustion was ended for good. But that wasn't all as the thing that took everyone's ignition powers was a being that Shinra created known simply as God as he wanted this new world to be able to worship and interact with a god that actually existed. And after he took the ignition powers from everyone he simply vanished to do things a God would do. And later on this God would take on a new name as he ruled over Death he would be called Lord Death. And he decided to make a child with the appearance of a human, he decided to model his son after the hero who saved the world 800 years ago. This child would be known simply as Death the Kid. With him being mainly regarded by the moniker of "Kid". 

Kid spent the first years of his life studying under his father in order to be his heir and the new Lord Death in the future. From his father he learned how to fight as well as the role of a Death God being to maintain balance. And Kid continued like this for the next few years, sometimes going on missions to do just that. And on one of these missions Kid would encounter the Demon Twin Guns Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson, better known as Liz and Patty. And upon seeing their weapon forms and their beautiful symmetry Kid decides to take them in as his own weapon partners though at first Liz and Patty were reluctant to be Kid's partners and initially planned to rob him for all he was worth, Kid showed them a side of life that they could actually enjoy, happiness. And ever since then the three of them were a practically inseparable trio. 

One day Kid would take Liz and Patty back to their home state of New York in order to track down the Phantom Thief Lupin, but due to Kid's obsession with symmetry Lupin ends up escaping. As an alternate path Kid, Liz and Patty instead go to Egypt in order to collect a massive amount of human souls and a witch inside of a pyramid. So to Egypt Kid went and while he did manage to collect those souls, he also completely destroyed the pyramid as a byproduct and as punishment his father took the souls he collected meaning he'd have to start all over again. A few days later Kid's father would summon him and his partners to watch a few students from his school take on a remedial assignment and when it looked like the students were going to die and Lord Death telling him it's not his business, Kid immediately decides to enroll in the school. Though sadly his crippling anxiety and obsession when it came to symmetry stopped him from being able to join the quartet of students on their mission. But it all worked out as the students Maka Albarn and her partner Soul "Eater" Evans, Black☆Star and his partner Tsubaki Nakatsuka were able to pass their test on their own. But Kid stuck to his decision and still decided to go to his father's school the Death Weapon Meisters Academy or DWMA for short.

And while at this school he, Liz and Patty would continue to develop their skills and get stronger alongside Maka and Soul and Black☆Star and Tsubaki as they would basically become an inseparable team. So that team would regularly be put on intense missions including one where they had to team up with the witch Medusa in order to take down her older sister Arachne. With every member of the team splitting up into their own factions with Kid, Liz and Patty going on there own in order to destroy a massive key to force Arachne to show herself. And once he got there he was thrust into a fight against a powerful opponent known as Mosquito. And that battle brought kid to his limits and even forced him to connect one his Lines of Sanzu which massively increased his power and furthered his Reaper abilities. And with his partial awakening he was able to defeat Mosquito, though due to being somewhat exhausted he got trapped within the Book of Eibon by a man named Noah but he was able to save Liz and Patty by throwing them from their gun forms to their human forms right before getting trapped. 

A few weeks after being trapped within the book Kid comes across the Great Old One who rules over Power and after talking to him become drowned within the Madness of Power. And as that was happening Lord Death decided to give the kids a mission in order to rescue his son with the inseparable team as the leads. And so they went to go rescue Kid from the confines of the book. And the person who ended up finding him was Black☆Star and after realizing Kid went kind of crazy decided to give him a good slugging to put him back in his right mind like Kid did for him once before. And after calming down Kid finally realized just what power actually means to him, the power to maintain balance and protect his friends. So the Great Old One let Kid and all his friends outside of the book. But right after that Kid had to have a rematch with Noah, the man who trapped him inside. And with the power he gained from the Great Old One to tap into the Madness of Power and his second Line of Sanzu connecting he was able to get his revenge on Noah with what seems to be his ultimate attack. 

But Kid's ultimate challenge was yet to come, as the Kishin Asura wanted to spread the madness of fear all over world. So DWMA sent Kid and a group of the most powerful Meisters and Weapons to the moon in order to stop him. Though he was unsuccessful at first when he was joined by his main teammates he was able to weather the shock of learning that Asura was also a being born from a piece of his father, making him his elder brother. Which made Kid a bit scared to fully awaken as a true Grim Reaper, but with the encouragement from his friends that he wouldn't turn out like his elder brother he was able to connect his final Line of Sanzu and fully awaken as a True Grim Reaper. And with this came a massive boost to his power and using that new power as well as with help of Black☆Star and Maka the team was able to defeat the Kishin and have him be sealed within the confines of the moon. But not everything was all sunshine and rainbows as when Kid returned back to the Death Room of DWMA he learned that due to his awakening as a Reaper his father had passed away as the world had no need for multiple Death Gods. So Kid would be the one to inherit his father's place as headmaster of DWMA as well as the one who ruled over death and balance. And he would even take on his late father's name and position as Lord Death. But make no mistake despite just how amazing Death the Kid is, he couldn't have done this without his partners Liz and Patty Thompson.


Skill & Experience
Nico di Angelo

While it might not seem like it at first, Nico is one of the most exceptionally skilled demigods to ever live, with really only other children of the Big Three being comparable to him when it comes to skill. Though most of his skill came with his powers, he's no slouch when it comes to his swordsmanship either. When it comes to his powers he was able to open a giant fissure straight to the Underworld as a completely untrained demigod and got even better with using better with his powers. Like being able to manipulate the earth and ground underneath him. And developing the power to manipulate the shadows that he can even use to functionally teleport from shadow to shadow. And while his swordsmanship was lacking at first he was able to develop it to seemingly rival the likes of Percy Jackson. Whose skill with a sword was so great that he was regarded as the best swordsman that Camp Half-Blood had seen in the last 100 years with the sole exception of Luke Castellan. And Luke was stated to be the best swordsman in the last 300 years. And Percy was 13 at the time of that comparison and only got better. And Nico was even able to casually take out a monster that blitzed Percy with extreme speed and precision and was unharmed. Later on he was even able to assist in The Battle of Manhattan and managed to briefly overwhelm Kronos and was later seen with no injuries. On top of all that he has recently managed to hold his own against the primordial goddess Nyx while in Tartarus. 

Death the Kid


Death the Kid is one of the most skilled fighters in the entirety of Soul Eater. Early one he was regarded as one of the three top fighters at DWMA alongside Black Star and Kilik Rung. On top of that in their first fight he was able to completely overwhelm Black Star and Soul Evans. And later after Black Star got stronger and put on the path of a warrior god, Kid was still able to fight him to a stalemate. He's also an exceptionally skilled gunmen being able to perform shots with immense accuracy whether they be short or long ranged shots, though Liz and Patty help with this a bit as their nature as his weapons. And on top of that should Kid so choose he can get in close and use Reaper Taijustsu where he forgoes using Liz and Patty to instead focus on hand to hand combat. 

Arsenal & Equipment

Nico
Stygian Iron Sword

Nico's primary weapon of choice is his sword made up of Stygian Iron. Stygian Iron is one of the three rare metals in the Greco-Roman demigod world being the rarest of it. Like its cousins Celestial Bronze and Imperial Gold, the metal is able to harm demigod, gods, Titans and monsters alike. Although unlike weapons made of those materials that dissolve the essence of its opponents, this blade absorbs the essence of those it kills making it impossible for monsters to reform in Tartarus as well as empowering the blade as well. Another unique thing about Stygian Iron is that the blade is also able to harm those with completely mortal souls as well as it doesn't have the same traits Celestial Bronze and Imperial Gold do with determining that mortals aren't important enough to kill. Nico uses this sword for various purposes but the main two would be obviously sword fighting his opponents, and he also uses it to channel his power to raise the dead by stabbing it into the ground. What is seemingly the only minor drawback to this blade is that he can't conceal it as it's made up of a metal that mortal eyes would recognize, but Nico normally just keeps the blade on his hip anyways.

Kid

Demon Twin Guns

The main and really only part of Kid's arsenal are the Demon Twin Guns, the weapon forms of the Thompson Sisters Liz and Patty. Kid wields them pretty uniquely holding them upside down and choosing to use his pinky fingers to press the triggers on the gun, probably because of his whole symmetry thing which is the reason he sought out the sisters in the first place. The Guns are also unique as instead of shooting out bullets they instead compress Kid's Soul Wavelength and instead shoot that out, dealing big damage if they hit up close. This also means that Kid never has to reload them as their ammunition is his own soul wavelength.

Beelzebub

Beelzebub is a skateboard that Kid can manifest with his Reaper powers in order to help him get around quicker as well as travel to places at high speeds. He can even choose to manifest it with small rocket boosters instead of wheels to fly on it.


Abilities

Nico
Demigod Physiology

As a demigod, Nico is significantly stronger, faster and way more durable than the likes of a normal human being. And as is common in demigods Nico also has ADHD, but in the world of Percy Jackson ADHD are the hidden battle senses of demigods which helps them stay alive during real battles. He can also see things that are hidden from mortal eyes due to being aware of the Mist and being able to see through it. But one downside to his being a demigod is that since he is half human and half god, he can be harmed by both mortal weapons that wouldn't harm gods or monsters. And mythological weapons that can't harm mortals would still harm him as well. Nico can also pray to certain gods to try and get them to help but it's still ultimately up to the god if they want to help or not. He can also summon a god to ask them for their advice but this requires him to sacrifice something of important value to him. Like when he summoned Hades at Camp Jupiter but had to sacrifice his aviators jacket to do so.

Geokinesis 


Necromancy


What is seemingly Nico's bread and butter as a power, Nico can raise the dead. He can do this to either commune with the spirits of the dead as ghosts. Or what he most commonly does, raise the skeletons of the dead to assist him in battle. He also has full control over most of the undead be it ghosts or skeleton warriors given his status as The Ghost King. He can also control ghosts he himself didn't even summon like by silencing a whole crowd of them simply by pressing his finger to his lips. Nico can even release the soul of a person to the Underworld that should be dead but managed to cheat death as he did with Daedalus. One of Nico's most powerful death abilities would be turning people into ghosts as he did against Bryce Lawrence to instantly kill him. 

Osteokinesis

Another of Nico's main abilities as a son of Hades is to control bones and bone structures. He can summon skeletons and have them do his bidding like how I previously went over his necromancy. He can also summon bones by themselves to form cages to trap his opponents, and transform bones into other objects made of bone. Like how he once transformed a finger bone into an actual skeleton key. He's also made a massive half-pipe made of bones to break his and Will's fall into Tartarus. And he also has a seemingly alternate version of his ghostification, being able to instantly kill his opponents by turning them into skeletons, which seemingly doesn't have the drawback of the ghost version of this as he doesn't show signs of exhaustion or risk himself turning into a skeleton.

Death Powers


Given his status as the son of Lord of the Dead, Nico has various powers related to death and the dead. He can sense when someone close to him has died even if they were far away from him when the death happened. He can also sense when someone near him is close to dying via a ringing sensation in his ears. Going back to being able to sense death for people close to him, he is also able to sense whether the death was different somehow like with Leo's and Jason's deaths. And to extend onto that he can tell where in the Greco-Roman Underworld the soul of that deceased person is in, like when he could tell Bianca was getting judged in the Fields of Asphodel. 

He can also tell if their soul hasn't necessarily moved on to the Underworld like with Jason as he could tell Nico can also see the aura of life and death around a person as when he saw the flickering of Rachel's aura in The Last Olympian. Nico can even release the soul of a person to the Underworld that should be dead but managed to cheat death as he did with Daedalus. One of Nico's most powerful death abilities would be turning people into ghosts as he did against Bryce Lawrence to instantly kill him. Though this power causes even more fatigue and exhaustion than Shadow Traveling excessively. It also risks he himself turning a ghost if he's not to careful. And he also has a seemingly alternate version of this, being able to instantly kill his opponents by turning them into skeletons, which seemingly doesn't have the drawback of the ghost version of this as he doesn't show signs of exhaustion or risk himself turning into a skeleton.

Superhuman Resistances


Given the fact that Nico is a demigod he's shown multiple resistances to effects that would hinder any mortal person. And given that he's one of the strongest he should also have any resistances other demigods have shown. Those resistances include:

Kid

Grim Reaper Physiology

As a Grim Reaper, Kid possesses a body completely unlike those of his contemporaries. He's stronger, faster and more durable than most people in the world of Soul Eater. Kid's body is also unique in the fact that he's immune to toxins and possibly illness, as well as being able to heal way quicker than any normal person. Kid can stay in areas that normal people are required to leave due to the risks of their bodies disappearing as he doesn't have that issue as a Death God. On top of all of that Kid also heals insanely quickly being able to fight against Mosquito after he got his arm cut off. As he just reattached it with one of his Reaper powers and healed insanely quickly right after defeating Mosquito.

Soul Resonance


When Kid, Liz and Patty all send their soul wavelengths back and forth between each other, Kid can activate Soul Resonance to boost their strength way further than what they would be able to do by themselves. This has to be done by matching Soul wavelengths with Weapon and Meister. And while it would normally be hard to do with two weapons, all three of their mutual admiration for each other makes achieving their Soul Resonance way easier than most other Weapons and Meisters. Kid's Soul Resonance is unique as when he Liz and Patty use it it makes Kid enter Execution Mode which turns Liz and Patty into massive cannons on his arms rather than their normal pistol forms.


Reaper Eyes


Being a Grim Reaper, Kid has the ability to activate an HUD display in his sight to lock on to his enemies and increase his accuracy when targeting them. It also allows him to recognize who is an enemy or an ally as well.

Death Block


Kid can create massive skull shields that resemble skulls in order to block out powerful attacks. While his father has shown the ability to make way bigger shields, Kid has only shown the ability to make them upon his forearms. Though after awakening to his true power he should be able to make the shields that cover his entire body.


Soul Collect

Due to his status as a Death God/Grim Reaper, Kid can interact with and collect souls without needing to kill the person they belong to. He also stores the souls within his body without actually needing to consume them like the Weapons do.

Death Claw


Due to the fact that he is a Grim Reaper, Kid has the ability to send out black tendrils of energy with skulls on the end of them. He can use this offensively in battle or in a more supportive role like when he used it to grab onto and reattach his arm.

Death Cannon


One of Kid's most powerful abilities would be his Death Cannon. After Kid, Liz and Patty achieve Soul Resonance and activate Kid's Execution Mode, Kid can use Liz and Patty's new cannon forms to charge up a powerful beam that he unleashes after a countdown of five seconds in order to reduce noise and increase his accuracy.

Parent's Seven Rays


Another one of Kid's most powerful abilities/attacks if not outright his most powerful tool in his arsenal is his Parent's Seven Rays attacks. Upon using Soul Resonance and entering his madness form (again more on that later), Kid summons coffins that rotate around him before unleashing seven rays of light from the 5 coffins and his two guns into the air before the rays coalesce into a massive beam with the appearance of a skull. This move was so powerful that Kid considered it a certain kill attack, and was proven right as not only did it completely obliterate Noah's body, it also completely erased Noah's soul as well.

Soul Perception


Like many of his contemporaries Kid can sense and perceive souls. He can do this to determine the distance of the soul and see what kind of soul it is, like when he and Maka both used their soul perception to confirm that a talking ape was following them.

Death the Kid
Madness Kid

Upon encountering The Great Old One of Power, Death the Kid ended up being influenced by the Madness of Power. While he was initially insane in this state after Black☆Star brought him back to his senses, Kid was able to regain his sanity and is able to access this state at will in smaller increments. While in this form Kid dons a new sleek black suit and stitches on his mouth, but after controlling it he lost the stitches. He also gains a massive stat buff which was enough to help him match the speed and power of Noah, who he previously got completely overwhelmed by.

True Grim Reaper 


Upon connecting his third Line of Sanzu on his head, Kid fully and truly awakened to his power as a True Grim Reaper.  In his state his Lines of Sanzu now surround his head, he gains skulls for pupils and dons a black cloak like that of his father. His soul also grows dramatically larger, being large enough to part massive clouds. Kid also gains the power of the Madness of Order powerful enough to completely eclipse all human emotion to only leave a cycle of birth and death. Though Kid opts not to use it as he has faith in humanity and has no desire to get rid of human emotions.

Cacodemons

During his encounter with Nyx she ended up creating manifestations of his darkest emotions from him. And while he did free them and let them go the daimons still ended up following him home anyway and try to spend all their time with him. Whenever Nico touches or holds one of them he ends up experiencing memories that they embody. They also help Nico become significantly more aware of manipulations to the Mist and if intruders are approaching. 

Death the Kid

Liz and Patty Thompson (Human Forms)

Although they're definitely more powerful when they work with Kid, the Thompson Sisters do have their own strengths should they have to be separated from him. Due to the fact that both of the sisters are Weapons, one of them could turn into their gun forms while the other sister wields them. And on top of that Patty herself is pretty physically capable of throwing down herself.

Nico was able to kill various creatures and monsters during his numerous journeys throughout the world. He's also directly stated by Hazel to be stronger than her, and she can fight at immense speeds when on her trusty steed Arion. So Nico should scale to the monsters and creatures of the world as well.

Death the Kid

A full power Death the Kid was deemed as a necessity to defeat the Kishin by the staff and faculty of DWMA itself as they have nothing else as powerful as a True Grim Reaper, so a full power Kid should scale above the staff members of the school.

Death the Kid was able to contend with the Kishin Asura alongside the likes of Black Star and Maka Albarn. And the Kishin was by far the strongest threat that the likes of DWMA has ever faced.


My Verdict


Strength
To start off with Nico's best direct feat of strength hilariously comes from his feat of when he barely discovered when he had his powers to create that massive fissure that lead straight to the Underworld that then erupted into flames. As the highest end for that is 11.2 Gigatons. And for Kid his best direct showing of strength would be his soul growing so large that it's able to part the clouds around the moon coming in at about 239 Kilotons. So Nico would be stronger with direct feats but that's not quite where this ends just yet as they still have the characters and feats they can scale to. The best feat for scaling that Nico would be Percy, Annabeth and Luke holding up the sky with its high end coming in at 3.45 Petatons. And Kid's best feat he would scale to would be Asura's moon crater coming in at 2.7 Petatons, with Kid even directly taking the hit. And the difference between these feats would only be about 1.28 times making Nico and Kid relative in strength and I'm comfortable with this category being a tie.

Skill & Experience

Now when it comes to their skill and experienced it's a bit nuanced. Kid does have more formal training given that his father trained him on how to fight from an extremely young age to when the series first starts. Compared to that of Nico who doesn't really have much formal training given that he stayed away from the demigod camps. But he does have a good chunk of real combat experience given that he's basically been fighting nonstop from the time he was 11 until he turned 15. So Kid has more training compared to Nico's more experience which I think would result in another tie for this category.

Abilities

Nico's and Kid's abilities is also a tough call as they both have a myriad of abilities that could overwhelm the other with Nico being able to summon armies of the undead and being able to instantly kill with a touch. Nico can also blend into the shadows to shadow-travel around the battle field, though he does risk exhaustion with this. And Kid also having a certain kill attack that seemingly uses real light and would therefore travel at light speed. Kid's Certain Kill Parent's Seven rays also completely destroys the soul as well as the body of the target it hits and is a multi-target attack meaning Kid could wipe out Nico's army of the undead with it as well. Kid could even counter Nico's shadow-travel with his Reaper Eyes lock on function to keep track of him. On top of all that, The Madness of Order should he so chose to use it could eclipse Nico's emotions as well as the Cacodemons as they are made up of Nico's emotions. So due to the fact that both combatants have abilities they could use to overwhelm each other and end the fight instantly this category too would result in a tie in my opinion.

Speed

And now for our final and most important category their speed. The reason for this is since their strength is relative and they both have options that could win the day instantly it comes down to who would be able to pull the trigger first. First let's talk Nico's speed, Nico has been described to move as quick as lightning by the narration itself and that's about Mach 524.8. On top of that Nico scales above Jason Grace whose blocked lighting with his blade at close range coming in at about Mach 762. But there is one last feat Nico can scale to, that being Percy simultaneously turning his head and raising his blade as a reaction to Hyperion's light coming in at 16% of the speed of light. Next let's talk Kid's best speed feats and scaling. Early on Kid was able to fly from Egypt to Death City and back at speeds that range from Mach 19 to Mach 233. He was also able to directly fly from Earth to the moon in a short time frame. He also scales to Black☆Star reacting to and grabbing Asura's lasers at 43.9% the speed of light. And scales again to Black☆Star who can move so fast that he's free from his own shadow which is obviously faster than light. So while comparing their direct speed showings Nico would be faster when we take them both with their best scaling Kid would be around 2.74 to 6.25 times faster giving Kid this category.

Conclusion

  • Has more direct combat experience than Kid
  • Could potentially overwhelm Kid with his army of the undead
  • Has abilities that could kill Kid with a single touch
  • Could use Shadow Travel to teleport around the battlefield...
Equal:
  • Relative in strength
Disadvantages:
  • Slower than Kid
  • Kid could wipe out his entire army of the undead with Parent's Seven Rays
  • Has less training and overall skill than Kid
  • ...Shadow Travel is to risky to use overall
  • ...Even if he did use it Kid could counter it with his Reaper Eyes
  • Kid's Madness of Order counters Nico's cacodemons and most of his powers
  • Liz and Patty are capable of fighting Nico own their own if need be

Death the Kid


Advantages:
  • Faster than Nico
  • Could wipe out Nico's entire army with Parent's Seven Rays
  • Has more training and overall skill
  • Could lock on to Nico through Shadow Travel with his Reaper Eyes
  • Shadow Travel is risky for Nico to even use
  • Madness of Order basically shuts Nico down and especially the Cacodemons
  • Liz and Patty can throw down even without Kid
Equal:
  • Relative in strength
Disadvantages:
  • Could be overwhelmed by Nico's army of the undead
  • Could be killed with a single touch if Nico gets the chance
  • Shadow Travel is a bit tricky to counter
  • Has less direct combat experience

Overall this was a fascinating matchup to do research for and was an extremely close call for me to make. With both fighters basically tying in every major deciding factor as they both have abilities that could overwhelm the other and instantly kill each other. And though Nico is technically stronger the difference is basically negligible of only about 1.2 times. So like I said earlier it comes down to who would be able to get off their wincons first and I believe that would be Death the Kid as at bare minimum he scales to Black☆Star who can out speed his own Shadow making him faster than light. Compared to that of Nico who caps out at scaling to Percy reacting to Hyperions light at 16% of said light. Making Nico at minimum 6.25 times slower. So due to their strength, abilities and overwhelming speed I believe the winner would be Death the Kid. The winners are Death the Kid, and Liz and Patty Thompson
